All-State Auditions - Congratulations to all of the students that auditioned for All-State Saturday! These students worked hard and improved so much simply by putting yourselves on the line and go through this audition process.  Thank you to the student workers that helped make that a success.  Also, thank you to all of the parents for helping out all day with food set up and other tasks. We received many compliments about how organized everything was.  

Guard Yard Sale - Great job to all students and parents that participated in the Guard yard Sale this past Saturday.  It was a busy busy day with lots of customers and help.  Thank you to Scottie Armstrong for organizing everything.  

Lumpia Due - Lumpia fundraiser forms and money are due on Tuesday September 17th. The BPA will be in the Band room all day collecting money.

Blackwater Classic - Blackwater Classic is quickly approaching along with the rest of Bandtober.  We are working on putting together a performance schedule of bands for that day.  This is October 5th.  Please remember that students will need to be at the school all day.  We will rehearse that morning, then watch/support all of the visiting bands.  We will be performing at the end of the night right before the University of South Alabama Marching Band  I will send out an exact schedule as soon as it is available.  If you are interested in helping out for this event, please email Nicole Humber at [email protected] or Arlene Wires at [email protected] for more info.

Blackwater Classic - Thursday September 19th will be the next Blackwater Classic Committee meeting starting at 6 pm in classroom 131. We are 3 weeks away and have a lot to do. Even if you are not on the committee I encourage all parents to attend. We are still in need of lots of volunteers.  Hope to see everyone there.

BPA Student Meals on Friday - Student meals on Friday will be from 3:30-4:15 in the classroom. Choices will be: Nachos, Tacos - choice of soft Tacos, Doritos with taco meat, taco salad and regular salad. Drinks and cookies and brownies.

Thank you to all of our students and parents for all of your hard work so far going into this marching season.  Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.  We appreciate each and every one of you! Keep it going.  We are almost halfway through marching season. We aren’t going to settle!
  
Away Game Friday – This Friday we will be going to Tate HS.

BPA Dinner for Students -  The BPA will be serving FREE dinner for the students staring from 3:45 pm until 4:45 pm. Dinner will be served out of classroom 131. 

All-State Auditions - The FBA All-State auditions are this Saturday at Milton HS.  We are in need of student help for various tasks on that day.  Students may receive volunteer hours for this.  Their are 3 shifts available 8am-11:30pm,11:15pm-2:45pm, & 2:30pm-6pm.  A sign-up sheet has been posted on the Instrument room door.  Please consider helping out.  Also, GOOD LUCK to all of our All-State auditioners :-)

Color Guard Yard Sale - This Saturday, the BPA will be hosting a yard sale for the color guard at the Ollie's parking lot beginning at 8am.  If you have any items you'd like to donate, please contact Scottie Armstrong at [email protected]. All Proceeds will go back to the Color Guard to help offset costs for flag bags and other guard specific things. 

Schmidt's Music Step-up Instrument Night - Schmidt's music will be here on Wednesday, September 18th with step up instruments for all winds.  Are you still playing on a middle school instrument? Are you looking to step up to a more professional horn? This is your chance to tryout and purchase or rent the next level of your wind instrument.  Schmidt's Music will be setup in the band room beginning at 3pm till 6pm.  Their prices are VERY competitive and they will have representatives on hand to help you choose.  More info will be given in class.  

Possible Saturday Camp Day - We have scheduled a tentative Band Camp day on Saturday, September 21st to be utilized to add the closer of our show on the field.  This will be 9am-Noon, 1pm-5pm.  More details will be given out later.

I hope everyone is enjoying your Labor Day weekend! Please see the schedule below.

Whataburger Spirit Night - This Wednesday is the MHS Band Spirit night at Whataburger.  The MHSBPA is hosting this.  Please plan for a Whataburger night.  Dine-in, Drive Through, or curbside. A percentage from all orders between 6pm and 8pm will be given back to the band. There is also a a sign up for students to work the event posted on the locker room door.  These students will receive volunteer hours for this.

Tri-M Applications - All students interested in joining the Tri-M Honor society and have not been a part of it already, must submit an application by this Wednesday.  Applications are available on the blackboard in the band room.

Tri-M Meeting - We will also be having a Tri-M Meeting on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 in the band room.  

Show Shirt Designs - It is time to start the show shirt designs for this year. Submissions are due by Wednesday. Each year, we take student-made submissions for the halftime show shirts. These designs are voted on by all band students, then sent to be professionally touched up and placed on black shirts. Here are some requirements for these designs:

• Show title - Teenage Wasteland
• Year - 2024-25
• Your name on the back page of design
• Everything else is up to you

Band Trip - I have been receiving many questions about a band trip for this year.  We are currently in the planning stages for this.  This year's trip rotation is to Six Flags Atlanta and Gatlinburg, TN.  We are hoping to have more details to present at the September BPA Meeting.  Please plane to attend to hear more about it.

Hello All,


Shish Kabob Meat Sticking - On Monday, we will have our first mass shish kabob meat sticking.  We will begin with concert band at 1:30, then symphonic band during 6th period.  All students need to report to the cafeteria AFTER school lets out.  We need all hands on deck for this so we can get it done quickly and correctly. Parents who plan on volunteering for the student meat sticking who will be there from 1:30-3:30 need to check into the front office and then come to the cafeteria.  We will have all of the supplies ready to go at 1:30.


Rehearsal this week - As a reminder, this Tuesday is the only marching band rehearsal this week because of the game.  We will go 6pm-9pm for this rehearsal.


Tri-M Interest Meeting - If you are interested in being part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, please attend the meeting after school on Wednesday. All returning members are required to attend. 


Pep Rally - This Thursday is the first MHS pep rally of the year! We will be on an alternate class schedule that day.  Students will need to meet in the band room at 1:40 to prepare.  Please wear a band shirt, or even better, I encourage everyone to dress in the theme. Remember, we bring the party – so dress the part!


Thursday Game - This Thursday is a home football game.  See the itinerary below. The uniform we will wear (summer or full) is TBA – please wait for this to be confirmed.  Call time is 6:00 and kickoff is 7:30pm.  


BPA Dinner for Students Thursday - The BPA will be feeding all the band students on Thursday before the game at the Band concession stand. We will have food available from 3:45-5:00 pm. We will have the following: Olive Garden Chicken Pasta, Salad- iceberg and spinach, Hawaiian Rolls, Hamburger/Cheeseburger, Hot dog, Chips, cookies, drinks


BPA Concessions Help - There are still a few spots available for any band parent that would like to volunteer.  Please see the sign-up on the PHS event on CutTime.

Please see the schedule below for events this week.  I hope everyone's first week of school was amazing! Happy second week to all.

Senior Band Pics - All seniors will need to meet at the band room at 5pm on Tuesday.  They will be getting their individual pictures made in uniform by Mrs. Rachel Downs for a project.  Please be ready to go.  This should not take too long.  

East Milton ES Pep Rally - East Milton Elementary has asked the MB&G to perform for their beginning of the year pep rally again.  We will need to meet at East Milton ES at 7:30am.  The pep Rally will be done by around 8:15ish.  Students will need to wear a band shirt.  Students can also receive volunteer hours for this.  You will need to secure your own ride to EMES and to MHS.  Let's have a good showing for our future panthers! This is a volunteer event and not required.

Away Game Friday - This Friday is our first away game of the season. This will be at Crestview HS.  Call time is 4:30pm.  The BPA will be feeding students in math west room 131 right after school until 4:15.  Students should've already signed up for 1 of 5 buses at this point.  Students MUST ride busses to the game.  Students may check out with parents at the end after we have marched back to the truck and dismissed.  Here are the checkout procedures:

• Students must have a note from a parent to give to the head chaperone (Ashley Preston) or the band directors BEFORE we depart. At the end of the game, we will march back to the band truck and dismiss. At that point, students will need to go back to their bus with the chaperones and grab belongings. After that, they will meet Mrs. Preston at BUS 1 along with their ride and checkout with her. Yes, you will need to walk or drive across campus to meet at bus 1.  Understand, this procedure is to ensure the safety of all students.

Returning from away events - We usually send the trucks back early after we reload from away events so they are already at the school before we arrive on buses.  We are asking that parents that are waiting at the MHS please help unload the trucks before we return.  This will allow everyone to dismiss and depart as soon as possible.  Thank you in advance.

Band Section at Games - Parents, please understand that the band section at games is off limits to non-band/non-chaperones during games.  Our students have a task to maintain a fun and enriching environment to all.  We have designated chaperones around the band that are also tasked with assignments along with creating a barricade.  We do not mind at all if you want to talk with your kiddo from a distance, but please do not enter the band section. Our chaperones are doing their best to ensure the safety of our students.  Please respect their position.  We do on a rare occasion have a non-chaperone parents in the section for various reasons.

​Hello All,

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!! We are excited to start the school year! I hope you are as well.  The first day of school is always a great restart.  Remember, you start the year with a clean slate.  What will it be by May.  Only you can decide.  The year will be what you make it. Good luck to all and remember, we are here to help.

Uniform Fittings - We have scheduled uniform fittings for Tuesday 3:45-5:30.  All new winds and percussion students as well as any veteran students needing a new sized uniform top will need to plan to attend.  Also, if you ordered bibbers through the MHS Band link, they have arrived.  We will hand these out during this time.  

Rehearsal this week - As a reminder, this Tuesday is the only marching band rehearsal this week because of the game.  We will go 6pm-9pm for this rehearsal.

MHSBPA Monthly Meeting - Tuesday at 7 pm is our monthly BPA Parent Meeting. It will be held in the Band Hall for now. Lots of information this month about upcoming events.

Thursday Game - This Thursday is our first football game of the year.  See the itinerary below.  Remember, we will wear summer uniform for this game.  Call time is 5:30 and kickoff is 7pm.  

BPA Dinner for Students Thursday - Thursday from 4-5:30 pm the BPA will be feeding all band students before the football game. It will be served from the concession stand at the stadium.  Menu is as follows:

• Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Hot Dog, Grilled chicken sandwich,  Nachos, Chips ,cookies and drinks.

BPA Concessions Walk-Through - Tuesday 6:00 pm we will be having a concession walk though/training for the upcoming Football season. The concession is all setup and ready for business. We will be talking about different stations and where they are located and duties associated with them and also portion sizes and products. Please plan on attending if you plan to volunteer in concessions.

BPA Concessions Help - There are still a few spots available for any band parent that would like to volunteer.  Please see the sign-up on the Choctaw event on CutTime. 

Wind Concert Instruments - All wind concert instruments must be returned for class on Tuesday.
