9/11 Memorial Project
During the 2020 Milton High School band trip, we will be visiting the September 11th Memorial in New York City. In order to better appreciate the magnitude of our visit, we are going to pay tribute to some of our fallen brothers and sisters who lost their lives on that fateful day. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to touch the lives of those families who lost loved ones. We have developed the “9/11 Memorial Project”. We feel that these activities will best convey our compassion and gratitude to those Americans who lost their lives.

Before the Memorial Paper:
- Students will search the memorial list of names and choose a name to research and pay tribute. The list can be found at the following link: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/memorial/lists/by-name/index.html
- Once a name has been chosen, students are to research as much as possible about that person. I.e. occupation, family background, place of birth, place of death (pentagon, tower, or plane), hobbies, etc. The “Facts of their Life” if you will. Once this information is gathered, the students will write a biography paper about the person they chose.
- Do not simply state the facts about this person. Go in depth and really explain this person’s life.
- What is this person’s life story?
- How did September 11th affect his/her family afterward?
- Use multiple resources to gather as much information as possible (i.e. People Magazine, Times Magazine, Newspapers, Google, etc.)
- These papers are due Friday, March 6th
- Each student will be issued a small American flag with a tag attached to it in which they will need to fill out. The tag will say, “In memory of ________ from _______ and the Milton High School Mighty Black and Gold Band in Milton, Florida.”
- Once at the memorial, the students will search for their person’s name and place the flag in the name on the panel.
- They will have places where you can search for your person’s name at the memorial; however, if you would like to know before that, then go to the following link and type your person’s name there:
