MHS BAND WIND AUDITION MATERIAL

AUDITIONS FOR THE 2025-26 WILL BE ONLINE.  PLEASE SEE DIRECTIONS BELOW

**DEADLINE IS SATURDAY MAY 24th**

We will be utilizing Microsoft Teams for these auditions.  This a FREE service.  You will need to sign in to Teams using your school email. No one else but the band directors will see this video. You can do this either on a computer or a cell phone/mobile device.  Please follow the directions below:

TO JOIN THE WOODWIND AUDITIONS TEAM:

  3. Once in the app, click on “Teams” at the bottom of the screen
  4. Click the Three Dots at the top right
  5. Select “# Join a team with a code”

TO SUBMIT AUDITION VIDEOS:
  1. Under assignments
  2. Select the audition that you would like to submit (7 major scales or Prepared Music)
  3. Click “+ New”
  4. Then “Flip recording video”
  5. You can either:
    1. Upload a pre-recorded video from your device OR
    2. Take a video to submit.
6.At the beginning of each video, state YOUR NAME, INSTRUMENT, and CURENT SCHOOL.

All woodwind and brass students are required to audition for chair placement and concert band placement to be members of the Mighty Black & Gold Band. Auditions must be submitted to Teams by Saturday, May 24th.  If you absolutely have exhausted all means to submit an online audition using Teams, please contact Mr. Schultz or Mr. Coots at our email addresses at the bottom of this page to set up other options to submit auditions.  

AUDITION WILL CONSIST OF:
  1. Seven Major Scales
    1. Performed in this order: Concert C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, & Gb in that order
    2. In 2 minutes or less
    3. Must be Memorized
    4. As many octaves per scale as you are capable
    5. Must be performed in complete octaves
    6. Use All-State Scale Pattern: Tongue up / Slur Down with Arpeggios
    7. CLICK HERE for a complete set of scale sheets for each instrument
  2. Prepared Music
    1. Please prepare the musical etude below. Points will be based on precision (correct notes & rhythms), tone quality, attention to details, and musicality.

PERCUSSION:
Percussion will audition for instrument placement during percussion audition camp in May.  These auditions are used to determine marching band instrument assignment as well as entry into the MHS Band program.

​The all-county auditions/in-house auditions in November will be used to place percussion students in the appropriate concert ensemble. ​​
