ALL COUNTY HONOR BAND INFO

2020-21 SANTA ROSA ALL-COUNTY HONOR BAND
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
 
Auditions this year will be virtual and will utilize Flipgrid.   The deadline for video submissions is 11:59pm Wednesday, March 24th .  See Flipgrid links below for the specific links for your instrument(s):

You will need to use your school email to create and login to your Flipgrid account.  It is highly recommended that you download the Flipgrid app to your mobile device and use that, however, it should also work using an internet browser.  All of this is Free.  Once you login and go to your specific page, you will see 2 separate topics where you will submit the 2 parts to each audition.  PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN EACH TOPIC!
 
Woodwind & Brass Auditions will consist of:
  1. Flipgrid Topic 1
    1. Seven major scales (in 2 minutes or less) from memory, complete with arpeggios, at a minimum tempo of MM quarter note = 120. Scales are to be performed a minimum of 2 octaves where possible. Students who wish to play a 3rd octave may do so. All scales must be performed within the allotted time frame. Scales must be performed in complete octaves. Please use the All-State Scale Pattern. The scales should be tongued ascending and slurred descending where applicable. The student will be asked to perform scales in their transposed form. Scales will be performed in the following order, starting with the concert key of: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, & Gb. ALL SCALES ARE TO BE PLAYED FROM MEMORY
    2. A Chromatic Scale covering the range of their instrument…as given in the requirements below. The scale should be performed in even eighth notes at a minimum tempo of MM quarter note = 144. The scale should be tongued ascending and slurred descending where applicable. Scale must be memorized. Here are the requirements below:
 
Flute – 3 octaves from C                     Oboe – 2 octaves from D                    Bassoon – 3 octaves from Bb
Clarinet – 3 octaves from E                Bass Cl – 3 octaves from E                 Saxes – 2 octaves from F
Trumpet – 2 octaves from C              French Horn – 2 octaves from F        Trombone– 2 octaves from Bb
Euphonium – 2 octaves from Bb       Tuba – 2 octaves from Bb
 
A student may choose to perform additional octaves; however, they must begin on the notated pitch. Additional points will not be awarded for partial octaves.

Percussion Auditions will consist of:

      1. NO CHROMATIC SCALE REQUIRED
    2. Mallet Prepared Music
