Alumni Band Centennial Celebration Info
In October of 1915, Milton High School was established in the town of Milton, FL. Now, 100 years later, MHS has grown to house over 1,700 students and become one of the best schools in the nation. Though there have been many trials and tribulations throughout this century of Milton's existence, we have never forgotten our traditions of pride, family, and excellence.

SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENTS – I have secured a few of the regular school-owned instruments from some of the local middle schools. Avalon Middle School is providing our marching percussion equipment and Gulf Breeze Middle School is providing our sousaphones. We may have to use concert baritones and French horns. All others will need to try to secure their own instruments...borrow from someone you know or you may wish to contact Playground Music (Ft. Walton) to see if they have any available for short-term rental. Colorguard members will be provided with a flag & flag pole to use for the parade.
MUSIC – If you wish to access the parade music (MHS Fight Song) and some of the stand music prior to next Thursday, please follow the following link to the MHS Band Website:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0TjOX1VOM1YUGJ5MEp5d0ctMVE&usp=sharing&tid=0B0TjOX1VOM1YMnkwWi1sbDZBLVk
You should see the folder where each piece of music is located. Once you open the PDF file...you’ll see the conductor’s score followed by the individual parts. Simply print out the page number that you need for your instrument.
You can also access the music at www.miltonhighschoolband.com under the “media & other resources” tab, click on “sheet music” and then “marching music” followed by “stands tunes”.
IF YOU CAN’T PARTICIPATE IN ALL THREE EVENTS (Rehearsal, Parade, & Football Game) – Please let me know via e-mail if you are unable to participate in any of the three events so that I can be better prepared. Thanks.
THURSDAY REHEARSAL – Wear cool, comfortable clothing and tennis shoes for marching. After we watch the 2015 Mighty Black & Gold Band give a special performance of their Centennial Celebration Halftime Show, we will show you how we need your assistance during the halftime show at Friday night’s game. We will not be playing during the halftime show on Friday night, but will utilize the Alumni Band to sequentially release 100 helium-filled orange & gold balloons from the back sideline during 100 counts of the new Alma Mater arrangement during our halftime show...100 balloons, 100 yards, 100 counts! After we practice that portion, then we will play through some of the stand music for Friday night’s football game with the current band so that you are at least familiar with it. Then at 6:30 pm, after the current band is released, we will practice the Milton HS Fight Song for the parade and the percussion will rehearse a short, easy cadence for the parade (Vince Dofita, MHS Alumni & current percussion staff member is writing it). We will spend some time refreshing our parade block marching while we cadence and play the Fight Song around the track.
THURSDAY NIGHT RECEPTION – After our halftime & parade rehearsal, we will gather back in the MHS Bandroom for a time of fellowship and food. Jan Weaver (my wife) has arranged a spread of hor d’oeuvres from the Apple Market. Stay as long as you’d like and share your best band memories!
FRIDAY’S HOMECOMING PARADE – We will wear our Centennial Alumni Band T-Shirts, blue jeans, and good marching shoes for the Homecoming Parade on Friday morning. We are asking that our Alumni band members arrive on campus from 9:15 to 9:30 am. School starts at 9:15 am so traffic will be heavy on campus prior to our meet time. We will have special parking for the Alumni Band on the gravel lot located next to the gym and softball field for the morning. Once we meet at the track bleachers, we will begin boarding school buses to transport our group up to King Middle School. The parade will begin at King Middle School at 10:30 am. The parade route is south from King Middle School to Magnolia Street, right on Magnolia Street, left on Byrom Street in front of Rhodes Elementary School, left on Raymond Hobbs Street, right on Stewart Street in front of MHS, right on Park Avenue, and right into the south parking lot and ending at the MHS gym. It is about 1.9 miles in length (or 8 laps around the MHS track). We will have the MHS Band Trailer and a few chairs following us in the parade route for those who aren’t able to march the 1.9 miles or who have difficulties during the parade. The parade should end at Milton High School around 11:30 am. All cars will need to be moved out of the gravel parking lot by 12:30 pm for football game preparations to be made.
FRIDAY’S GAME – We would like for all of the Alumni Band to meet at 5:45 pm for the football game on Friday night. The group will warm-up and stretch with the current band. Then we will march in and sit together at the football game. Both bands will play together on most of the stand music and we encourage you to dance with us on the drum jams. We’ll also need your help pulling off our special balloon effect at halftime. The game usually ends around 10:00-10:15 pm and then we play the Alma Mater for the football team. The Gulf Breeze High School Band will also be performing their halftime show postgame so we’ll stay and enjoy their performance before marching out of the stadium and back to the bandroom!
