Hello All,

First and foremost, THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR VETERANS AND ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY AND FAMILIES FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE, ARE DOING, AND WILL DO TO ALLOW US TO FREELY DO WHAT WE DO EVERYDAY!! This is the land of the free because it is the home of the brave! We will never forget!

Unfortunately the Veterans Day parade had to be cancelled because of the rain, however the ceremony still took place in the MHS auditorium today.  Thank you and good job to Sydney Mosley and Jordan Bishop for a moving performance of Taps at the end of the ceremony.

If you have not done so, please sign up for an excursion option for the band trip.  CLICK HERE and read over the information and fill out the form.  Sign-up must be completed by this Friday

I encourage all to come out and look through and hopefully buy music this Tuesday at the band room from 3pm-7pm.  Beethoven & Co will be here with a ton of music written for your instrument and most combination of ensembles you can think of.  This is your opportunity to buy a piece if you are interested in performing in the FBA solo & ensemble.

The Troy SEUS and USM All-South Honor Band info has been released.  Both of these are online.  USM is the only one that requires a taped audition to be submitted upon application.  If you need help with this recording, please let us know and we will record you before the Christmas break.  You will still need to submit it on your own.  Please click the following links for more information:

Troy SEUS - CLICK HERE - Due Nov. 26th
USM All-South - CLICK HERE - Due Jan. 9th

Finally, this will be the last weekly update until after the Thanksgiving break.  Please make sure you look at the calendar below and on Charms.  The indoor schedules should be posted very soon.  Stay safe and I hope everyone has a great break!

Excursion Sign-up for Band Trip

11/12/2018

Good afternoon, Band Trip Adults!!!  We have 22 days of school left (5 days of which I’ll be out of town) prior to the band trip…so I’m working hard to get the band trip logistics and reservations put together.  I need to know which Excursion that you’d like to participate in on Friday, January 4 while we are in the Smoky Mountains.  We have four different options.  You can give us your Excursion Choice by completing the following link:

https://goo.gl/forms/AKRqHIQgrEsfkkdp1

Here are the options:

Excursion 1 – Free Time On Pigeon Forge Parkway – this excursion will consist of spending the day on the Pigeon Forge Parkway with shopping, dining, and attraction opportunities galore.  Cost is $10 per person for your unlimited trolley ticket.  You’ll need to have money for shopping, meals, and to purchase attraction tickets.

Excursion 2 – Mountain Hike – this excursion will consist of a charter bus ride to one of the trailheads in the Smoky Mountain National Park.  Cost is $10 per person.  After hiking, the group will go to a picnic area and enjoy a Firehouse Subs lunchbox.

Excursion 3 – Snow Skiing at OberGatlinburg – this excursion will consist of the charter buses dropping off in Gatlinburg and taking the aerial tram (which we’ll also on Sunday) up to Ober Gatlinburg Ski Park for a day of skiing.  The cost is $49 per person and includes aerial tram, equipment rental, and one ski lesson.  You’ll need to purchase your own lunch up at Ober Gatlinburg.  Choose from three different slopes (snow may be machine-made) for an exhilarating adventure.

Excursion 4 – Private Tour of Cades Cove – this excursion will consist of a charter bus ride over to the Townsend Cultural Center where we’ll catch smaller private tour shuttle buses for a personalized trip through Cades Cove.  The cost is $30 per person.  Cades Cove is an old 1800’s farming community nestled in a beautiful valley.  Old churches and old houses along with route will provide us with a glimpse back into the days of old.  This area also usually contains lots of wildlife such as deer, bears, and turkeys.  Following the tour, we’ll head back to the cultural center where we’ll enjoy a Firehouse Subs lunchbox.

The last question on the online survey is checking to see if you plan to SnowTube at Scaly Mountain when we stop on Thursday, January 3 on our way up to the Smoky Mountains.  We will stop there for 2 hours prior to lunch.  If you think there is even a slight chance that you’ll want to, please mark “yes”.  I just need to know exactly how many people are snowtubing for contract and liability purposes.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  Have a great weekend!

The University of Southern Mississippi All-South honor band info has been posted.  Please go to the following link and read the instructions carefully:

www.usm.edu/music/all-south-activities

For WIND players, your audition will consist of a solo or etude of your choice, plus three scales.

For PERCUSSIONISTS, your audition will consist of examples of concert snare drum, keyboard, and timpani. Solos that best demonstrate concert ability on all the above will receive maximum consideration.

ALL auditionees must begin their recording by announcing their name and instrument. Please also announce, before each piece and scale, what you are playing.

The deadline for submission of application and recordings is January 3rd. If you need help with recordings, please see us BEFORE the winter break.

Hello All,

Well, we are done with another marching season for the most part.  What a great season to everyone! Friday night was truly a bitter-sweet moment, but we have bigger and better things to look forward to over the next 7 months.  Thank you once again to all of our students and parent volunteers for everything you did this season! I do want to remind everyone of the last 2 events we have for marching season:

Monday, Novemeber 12th - Veteran's Day Parade
Saturday, December 1st - Christmas Parade

Both of these events are required so please make plans to attend.

We now make our transition to our indoor season with all of our groups.  Please make sure you look at the schedule closely to keep track of all rehearsals.  The winterguard and indoor percussion will be posting their rehearsals on charms soon.  We will begin rehearsals for the concert bands the week before Thanksgiving for the most part.

I have attached a copy of the All County audition schedule.  Please make sure you check in at the band room first and arrive promptly to your audition room.

This Saturday, the BPA will be hosting a mass yard sale from 7am to 2pm.  If you would like to participate in this, please email Angie Perry at [email protected]  to go over specifics.  Set up begins at 5:30am.

Also this Saturday, there is a wonderful opportunity for all to see Doc Severinson live in concert with the Pensacola Civic Band at the Saenger Thearter at 7pm.  Tickets are $10.

That is all for now.  I hope you have a phenomenal week!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the following students according to Charms:
