Pep Band List and August Rehearsals

First let me tell you how fun last week was for the MB&G! It was so good seeing and hearing everyone back together, even if it was just for a short time! Congratulations on completing band camp 2020! Yes, it was the shortest band camp to date, but we did get a lot done!

We are now entering into uncharted waters with not just our band family, but the entire school district/state. As you have probably hear at this point, the SRC school board has pushed the school start date to August 24th.  Football games are now scheduled to begin on September 4th.  We have not received any more news as to new schedules, guidelines, or other issues that we all have questions about as of this email.  That being said, we are still planning for what we can do at the current moment and moving forward with the pep band style marching band until further notice.  

SEE LINK ABOVE for a copy of the pep band rosters.  On this list, you will see each pep band listed by band/name on the left, and by band/instrument on the right.  The names listed are all of the students that consistently attended Rookie Camp and/or Band Camp/Percussion Camp and Guard Camp.  If you do not see your name on any of these lists and you DID attend these camps, please email me ASAP and I will add you to one of the bands.  If you did not attend the camps and would like to be considered to participate in these pep bands, please also email me and we will see what we can work out.  Schultzm@santarosa.k12.fl.us

Colorguard members, as we discussed, although you are most definitely a part of the MB&G band family, this year we will be grouping you in your own group for practices and the football games.  This will help with sustaining the pep band numbers to below 50 members each and also maintaining just 3 pep bands in total. Currently, the plan is for guard to attend all games in which the pep bands will be present.  We do plan to have a guard camp August 10 - 13 4pm-6pm. 

Because school start has been pushed back, we have decided to plan a pep band rehearsal camp and guard camp August 10-13.  We will meet these camps in the band room for 2 hours each where we will work mostly NEW music to perform one way or another.  We will still have a check in process with each of these rehearsals unless that changes. please plan to check-in 15 minutes before your rehearsal time.  As soon as we are done, you must depart, as hard as that is I know haha.  Please understand that we have planned this camp to give our students the opportunity to come together to create music and dance during this break especially since we will have not met for a few weeks and to help with our students mental well-being.  We will continue to meet as safe and best as we can during this time.  We will update the September calendar as soon as we get further clarifications from the county.

2020 Chair and Band Placement List/This Week in the Mighty Black & Gold

​Hello All,

CLICK HERE for the chair and band placement list for the 2020-2021 School year.  We do still have just a few students that are in need of auditioning.  As soon as we listen to them, those students will be situated.  You will probably notice that the number of members in each class are almost equal.  We had to make sure that the class size was below 50 for each class as per guidelines from the county and still maintain appropriate instrumentation for a successful band experience.  All Percussion are in the 2nd period percussion class and all Guard are in the 1st period guard class.  Congratulations to all!

We had a very successful Rookie camp and first week of Guard/Percussion camp this past week! I want to extend another welcome to our newest members of the Mighty Black & Gold Family! We are very proud of you as well as our returning members for your hard work and helping to maintain our current safety precautions.  

This week we will welcome all of our marching band winds/percussion/guard members.  Winds will check in at 1:30 at the band room and rehearse 2pm-4pm.  Percussion will be 5pm-7pm.  New guard members will be 4:30pm-6:30pm.  Returning guard members will be 5pm-7pm.  We will go Monday through Thursday of this week.

Parents, we will be restarting the Band Parent Association meetings this Tuesday at 7pm in the MHS Auditorium.  Mr. Weaver sent an email out last week explaining what all will take place at this meeting.  Please make plans to come out and join.  We will distance each family group during the meeting.  We will be voting on a new board at this meeting.

Finally, we have been in touch with band directors around all three counties as well as our county administrators about summer activities and football season.  We have decided that it would be best to cancel the 2nd week of band camp and resume the pep/marching band rehearsals in August.  Currently, we are planning to begin these rehearsals Tuesday, August 4th.  Please see PEP BAND Schedule on the parent meeting packet by CLICKING HERE.  If we are able to resume FULL marching band, we will put this information out.  For now, please plan to utilize the Pep Band schedule.  We have not heard anything about football games, one way or another, at this point.  We will put the Pep Band lists together during the break at least a week before the first rehearsal and send this out.

Hello All,

I hope this finds you safe and healthy and with excitement to start things back up! If you missed the parent meeting this past Thursday, I will be posting the video as soon as I can edit everything.  We did pass out a parent document which you can access by CLICKING HERE.  This packet has several links and to our various online locations where we post all of our information.  You will also find our possible schedules for the year for both Pep Band marching band and Full Marching Band.  I encourage everyone to sync our calendar to your phones using the CALENDAR SYNC page.  This will allow you to automatically receive any updates we make to the calendar.  Speaking of the calendar, please understand that the plan right now can change at ANY moment.  We always try to make any updates at least one week before they occur.  With this situation, however, we must remain fluid and observe all guidelines from Santa Rosa County and the State.  We will send all updates to our various online and email sources as soon as we make them.   Please see the calendar below and on our website for the schedule for this week.

Also in this packet is the band budget and fair shares.  Please be advised that the first fair share of $65 is due by July 20th.  The fair shares for each student this year is only $130 if we stay in pep band mode OR $200 if we are able to go to FULL marching band mode.  

This week is our Rookie Camp/Percussion & Guard Camps.  All New and Leadership Winds will check-in at the band room starting at 1:30.  The wind rehearsal will be 2pm-4pm.  All students MUST depart campus immediately after rehearsals are finished.  All Percussion and Guard students, new and returning, will check-in at the band room starting at 4:30.  Their rehearsals will be 5pm-7pm.  Again, all students MUST depart campus immediately after rehearsals.  Please don't forget to bring your own water bottles and/or towels as we will not be able to provide these as per the SRC guidelines.  Make sure you drink plenty of fluids before and during these rehearsals.  Also bring all instrument/sticks/equipment and folders.  

July 13th will begin our first week of Band Camp in which all new AND returning winds will meet from 2pm to 4pm with check-in starting at 1:30.  That same week, All Percussion and Guard will continue meeting 5pm-7pm with check-in beginning at 4:30.  

We are still in the process of determining exactly what July 20th will look like.  We will keep you posted of the schedule for that week.  

Finally, if there is ANY prospect of parents possibly volunteering this year for MHS, please fill out the volunteer application form the county by CLICKING HERE.  These forms can be turned in to us.  This form must be turned in AND school board approved BEFORE you can volunteer for the new school year.  Anyone that filled one out for MHS last year, is good to go UNTIL the end of July.  After that, these parents must have the form turned in and approved for the new year.

Band Parent/Student Meeting 7pm

Band parent/student meeting this Thursday at 7pm at the MHS Football Stadium. Please be aware that everyone attending at the stadium is HIGHLY encouraged to wear a mask. Also, all family groups must sit 6 feet away from others. We will have a packet with several items to hand to you at this meeting.

If you choose not to attend in person, we will have a Zoom meeting set up that will simultaneously broadcast everything from the stadium at the same time as the meeting, 7pm. Please understand that we may not be able to monitor questions from that Zoom meeting and we cannot guarantee that the wifi signal will be 100% from the football field. We will try to upload a video of the meeting to our YouTube page for future viewing. Here is the Zoom meeting info for those that cannot attend in person:
