Hello All,

Congratulations on making it through our first game! Thank you to all of our students for going with the flow of everything and still putting on a wonderful performance.  Thank you also to our MB&G Roadies for helping with all of the background stuff.  That was probably one of the quickest games ever, especially the first quarter.  The Buccee's stop was well deserved....I mean we couldn't pass it twice in one trip without stopping LOL.

Lumpia Due - This Monday, all lumpia orders are due.  Remember, we need the order forms as well as money.  Kristin Hollifield, Lumpia Committee Chair, will be here at 8:30 am to 4pm to collect all forms.  Please make sure everything is totaled up correctly.

Band Trip Lumpia Profit form - We sent home a form as students were dismissed Friday night for all students that sold lumpia and are planning to go on the trip.  CLICK HERE this form as well.  Because of the fast turnaround with the trip deposit, we are needing to get you this money ASAP.  Please make sure you turn this in with your lumpia form on Monday.  Remember, all payments go through Group Travel Network NOT the band.  See trip info below.

Band Trip - This Friday is the deadline for the trip deposit.  this is $250 per person. If you are looking for the info for the band trip, please CLICK HERE to get everything you need from our website.  Remember, you will need to create and account with GTN using the following link: https://grouptravelnetwork.groupcollect.com/go/miltonhsband-cruise2024.

Niceville Game - This Friday, we play away at Niceville.  We will be wearing FULL UNIFORM for this and every game afterwards.  Please take care of all uniform needs BEFORE Friday.  Students will need to plan to bring their uniforms to school Friday morning.  DO NOT WEAR THEM TO SCHOOL.  Please wear claw shirts under uniforms.  Also, make sure you have lose fitting shorts underneath NOT jeans.  We will most likely take jackets off in the stands however, bibbers will stay on.

BPA Meal - The BPA will be offering FREE food to all band students after school 3:30-4:30 in room 131 across from the band room.  They do plan to offer this for each game so students can have a meal before games.  Students are not required to partake, however, they are highly encouraged to take advantage of this.  Again it is FREE.  This week they will be serving Domino's Pizza and Firehouse Subs.

Tropics - If you haven't heard already, our first potential storm has formed south of us in the Gulf. We will be monitoring this as the week progresses to determine any cancellations of rehearsals and/or performances.  Stay tuned.  So far, everything is scheduled as normal.

Blackwater Classic - Nicole Humber and Arlene Wires, co-chairs of the Blackwater Classic Committee has posted all volunteer opportunities for the Blackwater Classic.  This is our home marching band competition that is being held on Saturday, October 7th here at MHS. The MB&G will watch bands all day and perform at exhibition at the end.  Parents, we need your help to make this event a success.  Please CLICK HERE to view all opportunities for that day.  We will be adding the concessions sign-up soon as well.  If you would like to be a part of the BC committee, you can.  They will have a meeting this Saturday at 5pm in the band room.  Please email Nicole Humber at nursehumber@gmail.com or Arlene Wires at arlene0731@gmail.com for more info.

BPA Sweet Seasons - During the month of October and a little bit of November, the BPA will be selling concessions each weekend at Sweet Seasons Farm.  If you are interested in helping out at any of these events, please click the yellow helping hand symbols on our calendars. Please see any of the BPA board for more info.

MoneyDolly Fundraiser - We will be kicking off the next fundraiser after this week.  This is the MoneyDolly online app.  For those that were in the band last year, this is the same fundraiser we did at the end of last year.  This time, however, we will be selling discount cards to local businesses along with donations to the band.  This is completely online.  More info will be given next week.  If any parent owns or works for a business that you would like to include in this discount program, please let me know and I will get you in touch with Sean Santos, our MoneyDolly rep.
That is all for now.  I hope you have a wonderful week.

Checkout procedures and Parking at Milton HS for Away events

8/22/2023

Good afternoon,

Since this Friday is our first away event, I wanted to make sure everyone knows and understands the checkout procedures and where to park at Milton High School.

Checkout procedures:
Students must have a note from a parent to give to the head chaperone (Rebecca Justice) or the band directors BEFORE we depart. At the end of the game, we will march back to the band truck and dismiss. At that point, students will need to go back to their bus with the chaperones and grab belongings. After that, they will meet Mrs. Justice at BUS 1 along with their ride and checkout with her. Yes, you will need to walk or drive across campus to meet at bus 1.  Understand, this procedure is to ensure the safety of all students.

Parking at Milton HS:
I have attached a map of our campus showing the band hall and math west buildings.  On this map, you will see areas that are circled indicating a no parking zone.  When we return from away events, it is vital to keep those areas clear so we can unload and dismiss as soon as possible.  We have to be able to back the band trucks in to their spots and pull the buses into the drop-off area.  Understand that if you park in the parking spots next to the bus pick-up/drop-off area, you may have to wait for the buses to leave before you can depart.  We will unload both trucks and get all instruments into the band room before we dismiss.  No student is to leave until the band dismisses inside the band room.

Hello All,

Pep Rally
- This Thursday is the first MHS pep rally of the year! We will be on an alternate class schedule that day.  Students will need to meet in the band room at 1:40 to prepare.  Please wear summer uniform, or even better, I encourage everyone to dress the theme.  For this pep rally, it is Rock Out Orange Beach.

Game Friday
- This Friday is also our first game of the season.  This is at Orange Beach HS, AL.  We will be feeding the band box Chik-Fil-A dinners after school.  Students may bring their own meals if you wish, but every student will get a box dinner.  The BPA will be providing snack bags for the trip back.  It will take approximately 1.5 hours to get to the school and the same back.  Students MUST ride the bust to Orange Beach, however, they may check out when we march out at the buses and ride back with parents.  See Checkout procedures below.  We will be wearing summer uniforms for this game.  Call time is 4:15 and we will leave at 4:30.  We will load the trucks during band classes.

Checkout procedures for Away events
- Students MUST ride the bus to any away event.  If parents wish to have their child ride back with them, the student will need to turn in a letter of permission to the directors or the head chaperon, Rebecca Justice, before departure.  Students may check out once the band has marched back to the truck/buses at the end of the game, NOT BEFORE. We will dismiss at the trucks and start loading.  At that point, the student and their ride will need to checkout with Rebecca Justice at BUS 1.  The student and the parent must meet at bus 1 with their child.  Remember, we are responsible for your kiddos until they have either checked out or have returned on the bus to the school.

Uniforms
- Wind and Percussion students will be receiving their uniforms this Tuesday after rehearsal.  This does include bibbers and helmets.  Please make sure you try everything on to see if they fit.  Guard should be receiving their uniforms later this week or the beginning of next week.  We will be in full uniform for the first Niceville game, the first game in September.

BPA Yardsale
- The BPA is planning a yardsale on September 9th at Ollie's parking lot.  We are accepting donations of items to sell.  Please bring those to the band room this Saturday at 9am.  This is a great time to clean out those closets.

Band Trip - If you are looking for the info for the band trip, please CLICK HERE to get everything you need from our website.  Remember, the $250 deposit per person is due on September 1st.

Lumpia Fundraiser - We have kicked off the fall lumpia fundraiser.  This lumpia is made by our own BPA Lumpia Committee and has received rave reviews everywhere it's been sold.   CLICK HERE for the order form.  You will see that each bag is $15.  Students will profit $5 per bag sold.  We have pork, beef, chick, and veggie.  12 rolls per bag.  Don't forget to ask teachers and school staff if they would like to buy.  Order forms are due on Monday, August 28th.
That is all for now.  I hope all of you have a marvelous week!

Hello All,

Happy first day of school to all! :-)

Open House/Rehearsal Tuesdayy - This Tuesday MHS will be hosting an open house 5:30pm-7pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity for all students and parents to meet your other teachers and figure out your path from class to class.  We will have marching band rehearsal 7:30pm-9pm that Tuesday night as well. .

Missed Rehearsal/Performance Policy -  As we begin another year, just wanted to remind everyone about the band absence policy.  All rehearsals and performances have been individually placed as assignments in the Focus gradebook.  Any missed rehearsal for any reason will result in a zero for that rehearsal.  Students can make this up for full credit by having a 1 hour practice session per missed rehearsal outside of normal school/rehearsal hours.  This means either before school or after school.  These sessions MUST take place at the band room (or practice field during marching season).  Students must check in with Ms. Ruiz or Mr. Schultz before and after the practice session.  We will have a log book for this process.  Rehearsals and performances are just like assignments given in any academic class.  When assignments are not turned in, students will receive zeros until turned in at the teacher's discretion.  We reserve the right to modify this policy at any point.  As we told the students, "just show up" and you will not have to worry about making up the rehearsal.  Communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE all absences before rehearsals.  We DONOT want to guess where you are.  Perpetual absences will forfeit participation in band.  The Band Office phone number is (850)983-5611

Mr. Schultz
Director of Bands
Email: Schultzm@santarosa.k12.fl.us
Phone: (For Emergencies) (850)525-9551

Ms. Ruiz
Assistant Band Director

Phone: (For Emergencies) (910)849-7411

Fair Share Band Fee Payment Due - Next Friday is the due date for the second fair share band fee payment.  This is a payment of $125.  To date, you should have a total payment of $175 posted to your charms accounts.  That means that $175 is left to be owed for your balance.  Charms is up to date with all payments as of this past July 24th  Please check as soon as possible.  CLICK HERE for information on accessing you Charms account.  CLICK HERE for information on paying online.  We can also take cash or checks to the moneybox in front of the band office.

Meat Sticking - We will have our first mass shish kabob meat sticking on Monday, August 14th. Concert Band will kick it off at 1:30 immediately followed by Symphonic Band.  All students will join after school along with any parents who would like to volunteer.  We should be done by 6pm that night. This is required for all students.  Parents are able to sign up to help as well on the calendar or by CLICKING HERE.

Lumpia Fundraiser - We will kickoff our second fundraiser of the year on August 14th.  This is our annual lumpia sales.  This year, our own band parents on the lumpia committee have been working hard all summer to perfect incredibly delicious lumpia to sale.  These are hand made rolls.  More info will be given next week once we kick off everything.

Band Trip - This past week, we talked with the band about the band trip this year.  For our newest members, we try to offer an optional trip for students each year.  These trips  rotate from year to year.  We were trying to plan a Washington DC/New York Trip, however, the prices for this were ridiculously expensive. $1800 per student and $2300 per adult.  That is simply too much to try to raise in 7 months.  We have been shopping around for alternate trips with our travel company and have decided to offer a cruise trip this year.  Our travel agent stated that prices for this have come back below $1000 per person.  I do not have an exact price as of yet.  The dates for this cruise is March 18th-23rd.  This is the week before Spring Break. This is on the Carnival Valor leaving out of New Orleans and visiting Cozumel and Progresso. I know you have A TON of questions. As soon as I have more details, I will schedule a trip meeting for all that are interested in going.  The main reason for letting everyone know now is so you have time to order passports or official birth certificates.

That is all for now, I hope you have a wonderful week!
