For those interested, the Drum Corp International (DCI) season kicks off tonight in Indianapolis.  Blue Stars, Bluecoats, Cadets, Carolina Crown, Cavaliers, and  Crossmen will be among the groups performing. Theaters around the country will be broadcasting this event live starting at 7:30.  Locally, the Bayou 15 theater on Bayou Blvd in Pensacola will be showing it.  Tickets are $15.  More info on this can be found at the following website:

If you have never seen or heard of DCI before, it's pretty much marching band on steroids! I encourage you to come out and watch! No, we will not be transferring students to the theater or paying for their tickets LOL. 

Hello All,

This will be the last weekly update for a few weeks.  Please make sure you pay close attention to the charms calendar for schedules. The next time the FULL Band will meet is Monday, July 10th.  

We had another very successful rookie camp last week! I want to once again welcome all 73 of our new members into the Mighty Black & Gold family! With the addition of our newest family members, this brings our total of the marching band to 222 members and including non-marching members and jazz band, we are looking at about 245 in the entire program.  It is just hard to fathom the amount of growth that we have been blessed with.  I cannot wait to see what amazing things these 245 are going to do over the next year!

Percussion Camp and Guard Camp will take place over the next week.  Please make sure you contact John Whiddon or Samantha Byrd for any attendance issues or questions about the camps.

The Band Parent Association will have it's first monthly meeting this Tuesday at 7pm.  Parents, remember since you have a child in the Mighty Black & Gold, you are automatically a member of the BPA.  I encourage you to attend these monthly meetings as they will go over volunteer opportunities and several other items.  These meetings are usually held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Great job at Rookie Camp this week!! I cannot wait to see everyone again in July.  I hope percussion and guard have amazing camps and I hope everyone has a great summer.  Just 4 weeks till band camp!

Hello All,

Rookie Camp is upon us and we can't be more excited.  Our leadership is geared up and ready to go after our wonderful camp this weekend! This camp is for all rookies and students who have not participated in marching band as of yet.  Returning members may attend, however, you must attend for the full time for whatever day you attend.  Please make sure you STAY HYDRATED and EAT BREAKFAST! Don't forget the sunscreen as well.  The schedule for each day is below.  There will be a lunch break from 12pm-1pm each day.  You can either bring a lunch or take advantage of the free lunch program at the cafeteria.

Percussion camp is also this week and next week.  All percussionists must attend both rookie camps and percussion camps

Color Guard will be attending rookie camp as well this year and we are excited for this! The colorguard camp will be next week June 12th - 15th from 8am-2pm.  Please not that it ends at 2pm NOT 12pm.  There was a misprint on the hard copy of the calendars.  

Finally, new parents are asked to attend the new parent meeting on Monday at 6:30.  We would like to get to know our new friends and go over all of the info you could possibly need for the Mighty Black & Gold Band. If any returning parents would like to attend as well, by all means come on out!
