Hello All,

Well that break went by fast!! I hope everyone has gotten plenty of rest this week and is gearing up and ready to hit the ground running starting on Monday! I know I cannot wait to see everyone again and hear all of the stories!!

First, I want to say thank you to all of our students and parents for an amazing cruise experience during our band trip! We received so many complements from folks on the cruise as well as cruise and ship staff on how well behaved our students were.  Even Jason, our fearless cruise leader, said that we were the most organized and behaved group he has ever taken.  Thank you again! If you took pictures on trip, please make sure you upload them to the group travel video website so they can compile them and give us our complimentary trip DVD.  CLICK HERE for more information.

Not that we enter the homestretch of the remainder of the school year, please make sure you are up to date with the calendar as there are SEVERAL major events during this time.  Here is a current rundown of what is happening in the Mighty Black and Gold over the next three months:

11th-14 - Percussion Camp/Guard Camp

We will be adding various events as need to the calendar on top of what is listed above including percussion and guard interest camps.

The Jazz Band will be in performance at several events as you can see above.  We invite you to come out to Seville Square in downtown Pensacola on Sunday, April 8th at 10am to hear these outstanding students perform at the Pensacola Jazz Fest.  We will be the opening show of the day. Many other schools from around the area will also be performing after us.  All of this will take place at the gazebo in the middle of Seville Square.  We will also be performing at the Imogene Theater on Thursday, April 12th at 6:30.  This is a major fundraiser for the band and tickets are $5 at the door.  You don't want to miss out on this concert!!

The Crawfish Festival is less than a month away and we still have PLENTY of volunteer positions available.  Please CLICK HERE and sign-up for one or multiple shifts.  We will have a volunteers meeting the week of the event to go over what your responsibilities will be.  This is a MAJOR money-making event for the BPA and in-turn for our students.  Only you can make this event a success.  Remember, our goal now is to raise money for newly designed uniforms.  Please Help!

Finally, the MHSBPA is in the process of electing new officers for the 2018-19 school year.  If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please email Ann Sutton at fiery@yahoo.com to submit the name for nomination.  Offices to be filled are President, 1st Vice President in charge of Operations, 2nd Vice President of Administration, Secretary, Treasurer, and one Trustee.  We will vote on these positions at the April BPA meeting on April 10th.

Finally, the end of the year will be here before you know it.  Students, don't let this home-stretch and end of the year anticipation make you falter in your school work and practice time.  Remember to finish strong and don't let the business of the next 2 months overwhelm you.  Remember, you have 240 folks at your disposal including Mr. Weaver and me to help you through whatever you need.  All you have to do is ask!

That is it for now.  I hope everyone has a phenomenal week!

Hello,

I want to begin by saying good job to all of our groups that performed this weekend.  The symphonic, concert and panther bands closed out the MPA season Thursday night with 3 great performances to a fantastic audience and a tough judging panel.  Congratulations to the Symphonic band for earning straight Superiors and as well to the Panther Band for earning straight excellents for the first time in that band's history.  I am very proud of the performance that I heard from the Concert Band on stage.  I know the judges apparently heard something else, but in the end, we know the journey that we had to get to that performance and they do not.  The JV and Varsity Winterguards also performed well at the Pace HS Indoor Show on Saturday with both groups giving strong performances.  The Varsity won first place and gained 8 points from their previous performance.  The JV Guard gained almost 20 points from their last performance.  Great job to all.

This Tuesday is the final trip meeting.  We will begin with the students at 4pm and then conclude with everyone going on the trip at 6pm.  Please make all efforts to be there as we will be going over last minute info and checking students in.  Please bring the student's birth certificate or passport to this meeting.  These items will be kept safe in our school safe.  Also, you need to decide which of these you will use to board the boat next Thursday.  We will be helping students create their Carnival accounts during band classes throughout the week as well.  Can you believe that we will be departing next Thursday??

This Thursday is Firehouse Subs Night.  Please come on out and have a great dinner and put your receipt in the box at the cash register.  The band will receive a percentage back for every receipt in the box.

That is all for now.  I hope everyone has a great week.
