Hello All,

This will be the last weekly update until the full band returns in July.  Please make sure you look through this carefully and mark down all summer dates.  I hope all of you have a great break when we get to that point.  BE SAFE and get plenty of well-deserved rest! 

Rooke Camp - Rookie Camp is finally upon us.  This is required by all new members.  This is an extremely important camp as students will learn how to march and use their equipment.  All returning members are welcome to attend as well.  Make sure you prepare you bodies now by drinking lots of fluids.  Also, bring thermoses, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and anything else you need to keep cool.  We will be outside 8am-Noon each day.  Please bring all instruments and music as well.

Auditions - The deadline has passed for wind and jazz auditions.  If you forgot to turn this in, please get this submitted ASAP.  I will compose a list of students that we are missing and will notate what we are missing.  We MUST have an audition submitted.  Don't let technical difficulties or fear of auditioning keep you from joining the MHS Band.  We will work through all of this.

Audition Results - We will be working hard to listen to and evaluate all auditions after this week.  Please be patient as this process does take some time.  As soon as it is ready, we will post the lists on all MHS Band communication routes. 

Bibbers and Shoes Sizing - We will be sizing all new winds and percussion students for bibbers and shoes during rookie camp on Tuesday beginning at 9am.  If any returning student needs to be resized for these to order new ones, make plans to attend at that time.  

Guard/Percussion Camps - The guard and percussion camps will take place during June.  These camps are required, however we will work with pre-scheduled events to a degree during this time.  Please communicate with us any attendance issues with the guard and percussion staff.  See below for dates.

Weekly Updates - Hello to all band parents and students.  This is the weekly update from the MHS Band.  These updates are usually sent every Sunday or Monday.  Over the summer, these update will be spiritic until we have more events.  You can Click the following link for a complete summer calendar.

CutTime - We are now using CutTime and Remind exclusively for all  communications, Finances, Recordkeeping and more with the MHS Band.  If you have not received a text or email through CutTime, please contact us and we will make sure your account is updated. All Finances have been entered into CutTime and all online payments will now be made through Stripe in CutTime.


Parent Meeting - This Thursday, we will be holding a parent meeting in the band hall beginning at 6pm.  This is for all new and returning parents.  We will be going over all of the info for the MHS Band for the year as well as answer any questions you may have.  Please plan to attend. All students must have at least one parent representative.  


Wind & Jazz Auditions - This Saturday is the deadline for all wind and jazz auditions.  Please do not wait until Saturday to get this done.  New Students, if you need an instrument to audition with, please talk with us and schedule a time to come by the band room to pick one up.  You may get one any day after school.  Also, if you are having technical difficulties with the audition, talk with us.  We do have contingencies for any case.  We MUST have an audition either online or in person in order for students to be a part of the band.  


Rookie Camp - Rookie Camp is May 28th-31st 8am-noon.  All new students and leadership are required to attend.  All returning students are highly encouraged to attend.  Make sure you bring your instruments and music.  Also, we will be outside for the majority of each day, so dress accordingly and drink/bring lots of water! Looking forward to seeing everyone there.  


Guard and Percussion Camps - Over the month of June, the guard and percussion camps will be taking place.  These are required if you are in town.  We will work with you with vacations as long as you communicate with us.  Please make sure you email or call the guard or percussion staff in advance.  See below:

Leadership Camp - We will have our leadership camp at Adventure Unlimited this Saturday.  This is required for all 2024-25 leadership team.  Please make sure you turn in your $65 and waivers by Friday.  All checks need to be made out to the MHSBPA.  Also don't forget Sunscreen, Bug Spray, Comfortable Clothes, Beach wear to change into.

I want to thank everyone once again for a great year! We made memories that will last a lifetime.  Thank you to all that were involved with the band banquet as well! It was an extraordinary night because of you!

For our incoming new folks reading this, welcome.  This is the weekly update that we send out on most Sundays to keep you informed of everything going on in the MB&G.  Please read through this and make notes as needed.  This week we will see you at the Step-off Rehearsal on Wednesday.  See info below.

New Leadership Team - Congratulations to the new 2024-25 Leadership Team. We will have our first meeting tomorrow (Monday) at 4pm in the band room.  We will be discussing the itinerary for the leadership camp on May 25th as well.

Step-off Rehearsal - ALL NEW AND RETURNING STUDENTS: Wednesday at 6pm-8:30, we will have our first rehearsal of the 2024-25 marching band.  We are excited to welcome all of our new and returning members under one roof for the first time.  Please make sure you bring your instruments.  We will proved all marching instruments (bari saxes, percussion, sousaphones, euphoniums, mellophones). We will issue lockers and music during this rehearsal.  Wear comfortable clothes as we will be going outside at a point during this rehearsal. Parents are welcome to stick around and listen, however, there will be very limited room in the band room that evening.

Percussion Auditions - This Monday at 6pm, we will hold percussion auditions.  All percussionists will need to be in attendance.  

Wind Auditions - All wind and jazz auditions are due on Saturday, May 25th.  Please CLICK HERE for more info.  We have already started receiving uploads and thank you to those students.  Please don't wait until the 25th to upload your audition.  We will answer any questions you have about how to do this during the Wednesday rehearsal and rookie camp.  CLICK HERE for the Jazz audition info.

Rookie Camp - Rookie Camp is just around the corner.  All new students and leadership are required to attend.  This will be May 28th-31st 8am-Noon  We will be outside each day so please plan accordingly in regards to temperatures.  ALL NEW STUDENTS must attend all 4 days.  Returning members are encouraged to attend as well. We will have Rookie Camp rain or shine.  We do have contingencies to be inside if the weather does not cooperate.  

New/Returning Parent Info Meeting - We will have a new/returning parent info meeting on Thursday, May 23th at 6pm in the Band Hall.  All parents, please make plans to attend.  We will be going over everything you need to know about the MHS Band and also answer any questions you may have.  We also really want to meet all of you and help you in any way we can with this transition to MHS :-)

CutTime - Starting next weekend, we will be using the CutTime app exclusively.  At this point, all info has been transferred over to CutTime from Charms including financial info.  CutTime will be uploading our calendar soon as well.  More info on this will be presented soon.  All online payments will now be made through CutTime.  Of course, we still accept cash or check.

Congratulations to the Blackwater Beats Jazz Band on a fine performance at Ft. Walton Beach.  This marks the final performance of the 2023-24 MB&G.  

CutTime Migration - You will be receiving a this message though Charms and CutTime today.  We have uploaded all of the student info to the new CutTime hub.  After May, we will have to use that exclusively as Charms will no longer be in service.  All info including events, financial, volunteer sign-up, and more will now be through CutTime.  We have not uploaded financial info yet.  Once we do, you will see all balances due.  

School-Owned Instruments Returned - This Tuesday, all school-owned instruments MUST be returned and out of lockers by the start of the school day.  Schmidt's Music will be here quoting all instruments for servicing.  

Band Banquet Decorating - The BPA will be decorating and setting up for the Band Banquet this Friday in the gymnasium starting at noon and continue after school until around 11 pm. .  If you are interested in helping please sign up on the sign up sheet that will be posted in the Band room  starting Monday.  You will get volunteer hours for this. If you want to help during school hours, you must get permission from your 4th, 5th and 6th period teachers. Mr. Schultz and Mr. Coots will not send emails to your teachers and ask for you to be excused. Any questions please see Mrs. Wires.

Band Banquet Tickets - Band Banquet tickets will be available for purchase for 1 more day, Monday only. Must purchase by 6th period.  Adults are $10 dollars,  students are $5 dollars. Please see Mrs. Wires or Mrs. Armstrong  in the Band Room. 

Band Banquet - This Saturday is the annual Charles Bud Bell Band Banquet.  This is a celebration of accomplishments by the Mighty Black & Gold for the year.  Social activities and food will be served beginning at 4:30.  The awards presentations will begin at 7pm.  Please plan to wear semi-formal attire.  

Make-up guard Auditions - Any student still interested in joining the colorguard who could not make it to the primary auditions, must attend the make-up auditions this Monday and Tuesday 6pm-8:30.  

Lockers Cleaned Out - Next Monday, May 13th, all lockers must be cleaned out.  Any item left in locker by the end of the day will be donated or thrown away.  

Percussion Auditions - All percussion will need to plan to attend the percussion auditions on Monday, May 13th.  Students will be placed on an appropriate marching instrument at that time.  Concert bands placement will take place later in the school year.  

New Leadership Team - This Monday, all leadership interviews will take place.  Please be prompt for your interview timeslot.  We will have a new leadership meeting after school on Monday, May 13th.  We will also have a leadership camp on Saturday, May 25th.  More info will be discussed.  Both of the these are mandatory for all new leadership team members.  The BPA would like to say Good Luck to all students who are Interviewing on Monday for Leadership positions. You all are Awesome!!!

Band Captain Video - The band captain videos have been uploaded.  Please CLICK HERE to access these vids.  Please watch these before the vote on Wednesday.  

Step-off Rehearsal - The first rehearsal of the 2024-25 Mighty Black & Gold will be on Wednesday, May 15th 6pm-8:30.  All members of the MB&G marching band are required to be in attendance for this.  We will issue lockers and instruments as well as hand out music.  Also, we will get to meet and mingle and have a fun night!
