FAREWELL TO THE CLASS OF 2017

Today is the day that we, as teachers, love and hate at the same time.  We hate having to say farewell to 34 of our family members, but love to see what great things these students are about to accomplish. Mr. Weaver and I, along with the rest of the staff, are so proud of each and every one of you!! This 4 year trip is ending, but the journey is far from over! Whatever path you take in life just remember, there is always a road that leads back home.  Endless possibilities await you ahead.  What will you do with these opportunities?  I will not say goodbye to you.  I will simply say until next time....

I leave you with this from the band room:

"Before you leave the band room for the last time, stop and take a look around for just one moment.  These four walls have seen you at your worst and at your best.  They have watched families created and fall apart.  They have seen love between two people and one sided crushes.  They have seen your most joyous days and maybe melancholy ones.  They have seen the person you were when you walked in for the first time and now have seen the person you are for the last time.  And when you turn back around and walk through the halls for the never last time, know that those walls are silently weeping and maybe you are too, because you both have realized that in order to go somewhere in life, you must leave home."

We love each of you and will always be here for you! MAKE AN IMPACT ON THIS WORLD!!!

Hello All,

I hope you have enjoyed this three day weekend! I would like to send out a HUGE THANK YOU from the Mighty Black & Gold to all of our military families and service men/women who have fought, are fighting, and will fight for EVERYTHING that we FREELY enjoy!! Today isn't just about having a day off, but remembering the sacrifices you have made and will make so we can live in the greatest country in the world and do this band thing! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!

Can you believe it's the last week of school? Wasn't August just last week?? It is so incredible how the year flies by.  We must've had A LOT of fun this year.  We only have two big events this week for everybody.  First, Graduation is Tuesday night at 8pm at MHS.  I encourage all of us to attend this as this is the official last day for our seniors :*-(  We are very proud of each and every one of you too!

We will also have our second rehearsal of the new season this Thursday 6pm-8pm.  This is for ALL returning/new members of the Mighty Black & Gold.  For this rehearsal, please wear comfortable shoes as we will probably be going outside.

Speaking of wearing comfortable shoes, this year, we are going to see how everyone handles the new rehearsal uniform policy.  You may wear whatever is going to keep you cool for the marching rehearsals as long as everyone wears proper marching shoes.  This means tennis shoes!

Rookie Camp is next week.  ALL NEW MEMBERS MUST ATTEND THIS CAMP! Returning members are invited to attend as well.  Returning members, for whichever day you do attend, you must stay the entirety of that day's camp.

We will have uniform fittings on Tuesday and Wednesday of Rookie camp at the end of the camp for those days.  Rookies will get fitted for the entire uniform.  Returning members, if you need anything altered/ordered for your uniforms, these are the days to take care of this!

Finally, CLICK HERE for a copy of the General info packet for everybody which includes the summer calendar, media pages including charms office access and remind, and fair share info.  When you have time, please look this over.  We will have a NEW PARENT meeting at 6:30pm on June 5th where we will go over all of this info and some.

Band Day/Charms Password Reset/Uniform turn in

5/17/2017

Soooooooo.......First of all, WHAT A BAND DAY!!! Preliminary numbers looks like we are going to break the record of the biggest band in Milton's history again with a total of about 220 potential members! Great job to all of our wonderful students and thank you to our awesome parents that were their for helping out today!

In the hustle and bustle of everything, I forgot to reset charms passwords so everyone could update their accounts.  I WILL be doing that once I send this email out.  If you access charms after this is done, you will be asked to create a new password.  Please make sure you give this password to your child so they can update their account in class tomorrow.

Now that band day is over, we need all uniforms and school-owned instruments returned! We will take these up Thursday and Friday of this week.  Please make sure you wash them before you return.  Jackets must be zipped up and turned inside out, using the gentle cycle and cold water.  DO NOT wash gauntlets or sashes.  Any other parts that were borrowed this year MUST also be returned.  Seniors, if you would like to donate CLEANED uniform parts, there is a box in front of the uniform room to place everything.  Here is the directions for everyone to turn in the uniforms:

1. Put jacket and sash on a hanger labeled with your name and section
2. Place that hanger on the rack that is labeled with your section (Seniors will hang yours on the "senior" rack
3. Label any borrowed uniform parts with your name on a piece of tape and place them into the borrowed bin.  (Make sure shows are tied together)
4. On the paper on the stand next to the borrowed bin, write your name, item borrowed, and item number if possible.
5. Seniors, again place all donated items in the donation box.

The band day itinerary is below.  Students, please make sure you arrive as close to 8:45 as possible in concert black uniforms! We will go over the routine of everything before the 8th graders get here.  Parents and Students, be reminded that I will be resetting all charms passwords Tuesday night and once again Wednesday Night in order to have all current members update their charms accounts.  Click HERE to get advanced directions on how to log back into charms.

All uniforms and school-owned instruments MUST be returned on Thursday!! Uniform parts to be returned are jackets, sashes, gauntlets and any borrowed item.  Please wash all washable items before you return.  Pants and jackets are machine washable with cold water on gentle cycle.  Turn the jacket inside out before washing.

The Bud Bell Band Banquet is this Saturday 6pm to 11:30pm at the MHS Gym.  Tickets are on sale now for $12.  Students, if you have payed you fair shares in full, your ticket is free.  All others, plus guests, will need to buy a ticket.  Tickets will be on sale until Tuesday.  Please dress nicely for this banquet as it is a celebration of all of the accomplishments of this year.

Charms Password Resets

5/10/2017

Just giving everyone a heads up about Charms accounts and band day next Wednesday.  AS I discussed at last night's BPA meeting. I will be resetting all charms passwords to their original passwords Tuesday to get ready for Band Day on Wednesday.  We will be using computers this year for the new student charms registration.  After this is done and while we still have the computers, I will have all current students update their charms accounts.  In order to do this, I will have to reset their passwords.  They are going to have to create a personal password once they login on Wednesday then update their account.  On Thursday, I will reset all passwords again so parents and students alike can create a password that both of you will know.  Please follow this link to get info about Charms access information: http://www.miltonhighschoolband.com/charms-office-info.html
