Farewell to the Class of 2016

Today we send off yet another class of amazing students out into this world.  As one book ends, another one begins for you.  What will your story be? I can tell you this, because of the people you are and have shown yourselves to be, the possibilities are endless! As I look back and remember the kids you were 4 years ago entering into our family, I am in awe of the adults you have become! We are so proud of each of you.  Always remember where your home is.  I leave you with this from the band room:

"Before you leave the band room for the last time, stop and take a look around for just one moment.  These four walls have seen you at your worst and at your best.  They have watched families created and fall apart.  They have seen love between two people and one sided crushes.  They have seen your most joyous days and maybe melancholy ones.  They have seen the person you were when you walked in for the first time and now have seen the person you are for the last time.  And when you turn back around and walk through the halls for the never last time, know that those walls are silently weeping and maybe you are too, because you both have realized that in order to go somewhere in life, you must leave home."

We love each of you and will always be here for you! MAKE AN IMPACT ON THIS WORLD!!!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are doing well and getting geared up for the summer.  I have included our new members in this email so you can get a head start in your planning.  Welcome to our wonderful family! I try to send a weekly email every sunday to give you a heads up on the current week's events as well as other news that you may need to know.  CLICK HERE to access the charms parent and student access info sheet that explains how to access your child's charms account.  We use charmsoffice.com for everything including keeping the calendar up to date, student band financial info, after school attendance tracking, and email/phone communication.  Please take a look at it and update your profile as needed.  If you are having trouble accessing it, please email me and I will get you squared away.

As we say hello to our new members, we still have to say goodbye to our graduating members....or at least an "until we meet again." I encourage everyone to come out to the MHS football stadium for the class of 2016 Graduation at 8pm and say your final farewells.  As sad as I am to see another class go, I can't help but think of the amazing things that you are about to accomplish!! We will always be here for you whenever you find yourself in need.  Never forget where your home is and ONCE A PANTHER, ALWAYS A PANTHER!!

Rookie Camp is just around the corner.  Of course, rookie wind and percussion students are required to go, but any returning member that would like to beef up their marching skills are welcome to join as well.  For those members, remember that you must participate in the entire day that you attend.  Everyone, please make sure you have acquired a white T-shirt and nonfluorescent colored shorts.  You will also need tennis shoes or something to that extent.

Colorguard and Percussion camps also take place the evenings of Rookie Camp.  All guard and percussion students are required to attend these camps as well.

Hello All,

Welcome to the last normal/full week of classes this year!

This week we will be going through the final preparations for the Band Banquet on Saturday.  All letter and bar apps were due this past Friday along with the absence appeal forms.  Seniors, if you did not turn your Last Will in on Friday, please get it to me first thing Monday morning.  I will be sending those to the printer Monday afternoon.  Banquet tickets are on sale till Tuesday for $13 each.  If you have paid your fair share in full, your ticket is free.

We will be undergoing leadership interviews during all band classes Monday and Tuesday.  Potential band captains will also be giving their speeches during all band classes on Wednesday and Drum Major candidates will be conducting in front of the classes on Friday with the actual auditions that afternoon.  All potential leaders need to take note of the leadership camp we will be hosting at Camp Koinonia on June 2nd and 3rd.  If chosen for leadership, you are expected to attend this overnight camp.  More details will be given after the banquet.

ALL uniforms must be returned, cleaned on Monday and Tuesday.  Jackets, Sashes, Gauntlets, and any borrow parts need to be returned.  Any item not returned will be marked as a tag on the student's record until the item or the money is given back.  Please bring your helmets in as well as we need to collect the helmet lights.

We had a very successful Band Day this past Thursday!  We are looking to receive 55 new members into the Mighty Black & Gold family with possibly more additions.  Some of our sections may be a little over or under balanced next year.  As we talked in the classes, if you are interested in switching to a different instrument, please talk with Mr. Weaver or me before doing so and we can talk about putting you in one of those high-need sections.

Finally, believe-it-or-not, our first rehearsal for the 2016-17 marching band season is next week.  Students, please make plans to attend both of these required rehearsals on May 24th and 26th.

This Week:
Monday

- Leadership Interviews during class

Tuesday
- Turn in Uniforms (CLEANED)
- Leadership Interviews during class
- Band Favorites Due

Hello All,

WOW!! What a concert! Fantastic job to all of our students for your performance at the spring concert Friday night! I've been blessed to be at Milton for six years and I am always amazed at the talent that our students possess and display at this concert.  You are really the hardest working students at Milton High School.  Thank you for your hard work this year and we couldn't be more proud of all of you!

We are now in band banquet preparation mode.  Over the next two weeks, we will be collecting various forms, interviewing for next year's leadership, listening to speeches, auditioning drum majors, selling tickets for the banquet, and decorating the gym.  Please make you look at the calendar to make sure everything is turned in on time.  We will be giving lots of info about the banquet at the BPA meeting on Tuesday night.  I highly encourage you to attend the meeting!

We will be hosting band day this Thursday during school.  This is where Hobbs, King, and Avalon MS band students come and experience the Mighty Black & Gold for the first time.  We will also get an idea of next year's numbers at the end of the day.  All of our groups, minus panther band, colorguard, and indoor percussion, will perform in the band room for these students.

We will begin collecting uniforms the monday after this week.  Uniform parts to be turned in are sashes, jackets, and gauntlets.  If you borrowed any other uniform part, i.e. shoes, bibbers, helmets, you will need to turn these in as well.  Please make sure you clean the jackets and bibbers before you return them.  Cleaning instructions can be found in the band handbook.  Any uniform item not returned will result in a tag on the student's record until the item is returned or paid for.  School-owned instruments will be returned and rechecked-out the following week.

Finally, NEXT YEAR'S HALFTIME SHOW  ..............................................................................................................................................
will be announced in all band classes on Monday! :-)
