Game this week moved to Thursday

8/29/2022

I received a phone call earlier today from Mr. Rowell informing us that the game this Friday will now be played on Thursday with kickoff at 7pm.  This is because of the lack of available referees for games.  We are not the only school having to move games like this.  Other schools in our area have made that decision last week.

Band and ROTC senior night will still take place this week on Thursday instead of Friday.  I talked with Mr. Rowell about other dates to consider for this night, but there is no other game in which to move Senior night and still adequately celebrate our seniors like they deserve.  We will still wear uniforms.  Because of the 7pm kickoff, we will need to adjust the rest of the schedule.  See below

3:30-5pm - BPA Cooking for students
5:30 - Call Time in full uniform minus helmets
6pm - March-in
6:25 - Senior Parents meet next to band section
6:30 - Senior Night Events
6:50 - Pregame
7pm - Kickoff
10:30ish - Dismiss

I realize that this may cause some scheduling issues, but this is out of our control.

Hello All,

We are off to a great season! Thank you so much to all of our students for bringing the party and putting on a great show Friday night.  Thank you our parents who helped at the concession stand and chaperoned! We could not have made it through the night without your help :-)

Lumpia - This is just a reminder to collect lumpia orders.  If you need a new form, there are plenty on the black board in front of the band room.  These are due next Wednesday, no earlier or later.

Bibbers & Shoes - The bibbers have been delivered.  We have them in the band office in a box.  We will distribute these on Monday.  Please make sure you try them on and make sure they fit.  Wehave a limited supply of emergency replacements if needed. If you still have not ordered shoes, you MUST do that no later than Monday.  CLICK HERE for the link.  Any later than Monday, and you will NOT have them by Friday and you will be out of uniform.

Guard & Manger Uniforms - This Friday will be the first game in semi full uniform. This means guard will wear the BLACK shoes, TAN gloves, Back Unitard, and Tunic that was on the order form.  CLICK HERE to double check that you received the appropriate parts.  Ms. Byrd handed out the Tunics to all guard students earlier last week.  Managers will always wear the summer uniform for the year (Claw shirts/Blue Jeans)

Winds & Percussion Uniform - This Friday will be the first game in semi full uniform. This means winds and percussion will be wearing the black band jacket, sash, gauntlets, bibbers, Bando shoes, and SOLID BLACK CALF LENGTH socks, and gloves.  You will need to purchase the socks on your own. We will hand out the gloves on Friday.  Students will NOT be able to perform without these unform parts.  You may bring your uniform to school that morning and hang it on the appropriate uniform rack.  Please make sure you memorize your uniform part numbers now. When we receive the plumes, we will wear helmets at that time.  We will inform you when this will occur.

Catholic Game Friday -  Due to Senior night events, we will meet at 5:45pm this Friday. Parents, CLICK HERE to help the BPA at the concessions or CLICK HERE if you would like to help chaperone,

Senior Night - Seniors, please make sure your escorts are all present at the band section no later than 6:55 Friday night.  All escorts must purchase a ticket for entry.  We will show you where you will be standing on the field this week.  Remember, you will go straight down the hash marks to your spot.  Once you name is called, you will meet us at the dot straight forward even with the field numbers.

BPA Game Day Dinner - The BPA will once again be cooking for any band student that would like this Friday 4pm-5:30.  This week in addition to hot dogs, hamburgers, and nachos, they will have Olive Garden parmesan chicken pasta and spaghetti.....Mmmmmmm :-) Again, this is free of charge for the students and served at the BPA Concession at the football field.

Concert Instruments - We need all school-owned CONCERT instruments returned on Monday.  We will be sending all of these off to Schmidt's Music for cleaning and repairs for the year on Tuesday.  Make bring them in the main band room area first thing in the morning.

All-State Auditions - This Wednesday is the deadline to sign-up for All-State auditions.  Anyone interested needs to see Ms. Ruiz or Mr. Schultz.  We will post a list on Monday of everyone who has signed up.  Auditions will take place at Milton High School onSaturday, September 17th.  An exact schedule will be posted as soon as FBA releases it.

That is all for now.  I hope all of you have an EPICER week!

Hello All,

Happy FIRST GAME week!!! I hope everyone excited to get football season underway.  Please rea through everything below.

Pep Rally - This Friday we will have our first pep rally.  All students must wear summer uniform or whatever the pep rally theme is.  Listen for the morning announcements for the theme.  Students will be dismissed from class at 1:40.  This will NOT be an all call.  Students will need to remind teachers that they will need to leave at 1:40.  I will be sending an email out to all teachers informing them of this on Monday.

BPA Serving Dinner - The BPA board is doing an awesome thing for our students this Friday and all HOME games this season.  They will be cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, and nachos for students FREE of charge 4:30-5:30.  Students will need to go to the BPA concession stand at the football field to get this.  This is not required for students to eat there, however, it will give students an option to eat without breaking the bank each home game.  Thank you to our wonderful BPA for doing this for our students! Ya'll are awesome!

Game Friday - This Friday is our first home game! We will keep the band room open with a parent chaperone between the end of school and call time.  We will wear summer uniform.  This will be the only game this year in summer uniform.  Call time is 6pm on the track.

BPA Concessions - The BPA is in need of help at the concession stand.  Remember, if you work 3 money making events for the BPA, you can get $75 off of the band fair share band fee.  Parents, we need you! CLICK HERE to sign up directly.

Game Chaperone - If you have gone to one of the two chaperone meetings AND are school board approved, then you are eligible to chaperone any event.  You may sign up for this week's game directly by CLICKING HERE.

Hello All,

Hopefully everyone had a great first week of school.  Please see below for all of the info so far for this week.

Shish Kabob Meat Sticking - Monday is the first big meat sticking of the year.  This is an incredibly important event and is meant to restock the kabobs for the BPA.  Our kabobs are world famous and are the primary means of sales for the BPA to support our students.  We will begin with Concert Band during 5th period then Symphonic during 6th.  All students will join us after school till 6pm or earlier.  Parents are invited to sign-up and help out as well by CLICKING HERE.

Lumpia Fundraiser - We will be kicking off the Lumpia fundraiser this Monday.  This fundraiser can be highly lucrative for students.  There is high demand for these hand-rolled lumpia every year.  Each bag is $15 and students make $5 profit per bag.  This profit will go directly to student fair share band fees.  We will send order forms home with students and will also send a form through email to everyone.  Everything is due on Wednesday, September 7th during the band classes.

First Game - The first game is right around the corner on August 26th.  The call time for this game is 6pm in summer uniform.  This will also be the last time students will be in summer uniform for games.  We will move to normal marching band uniforms every performance after that.  As a reminder, parents can now sign up to chaperone or work the concession stand for any of the games.

Chaperone Meeting - This Thursday we will have our second chaperone meeting for the year.  If you attended the first meeting, you do not have to go to this one.  Remember, you MUST attend one of the chaperone meetings to chaperone any band event.  Also, chaperones must have a child in the band or be on the BPA board.

Voluntary Pep Rally - East Milton Elementary has asked if we could provide a band to play at their annual beginning of the year pep rally this Friday.  All leadership need to be there.  Everyone else are welcome as long as they have a ride there and back.  We will meet in front of the East Milton ES at 8am and be done by 9:30am. The Band hall will open by 7:45am. I will have a signup sheet on Monday for students for this event so I can excuse students for being late to first period.  We will wear summer uniform.

That is all for now.  I hope all of you have a wonderful week!

Hello All,

Lots of info for this week  Happy FIRST WEEKish of SCHOOL!! :-)

Open House/Rehearsal Monday - This Monday MHS will be hosting an open house 5:30pm-7pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity for all students and parents to meet your other teachers and figure out your path from class to class.  The admin team will also host a Q&A for all parents in the gym 7pm-7:30.  We will have marching band rehearsal 7pm-9pm on Monday.  Please plan to be ready for rehearsal prior to 7pm.

MHSBPA Monthly Meeting - This Tuesday the BPA will hold the August meeting at 7pm in the band room.  We will be going over volunteer opportunities for the football season as well as other important business items and needs for this year.  Remember, by having a student in the band, you are automatically a part of the Band Parent Association.  If you want to know how to get plugged in with your child and band, please plan to attend these meetings.

School Stuff - The first day of school is Wednesday :-) I hope everyone is excited! I know we are!! This past Thursday nighty, we took time out of rehearsal to go over several expectations of the band for the classroom.  These are for non-band classes as well as band during and after school. Here is what we talked about:
- Pep Rallies, early releases from class, along with participation in band events are privileges.
- Students must be in "good favor" with their teachers to participate in these
- How to stay in good favor:
1. Be Present and on Time
2. Be Respectful
3. Turn in assignments on time
4. Ask for help when needed/communicate with teachers
5. Use your recourses (Students in band at all levels have been their and done that)

Missed Rehearsal Policy - We are instilling an attendance policy this year for all missed after-school rehearsals.  All rehearsals have been individually placed as assignments in the Focus gradebook.  Any missed rehearsal for any reason will result in a zero for that rehearsal.  Students can make this up for full credit by having a 1 hour practice session per missed rehearsal outside of normal school/rehearsal hours.  This means either before school or after school.  These sessions MUST take place at the band room (or practice field during marching season).  Students must check in with Ms. Ruiz or Mr. Schultz before and after the practice session.  We will most likely have a log book for this process.  Rehearsals and performances are just like assignments given in any academic class.  When assignments are not turned in, students will receive zeros until turned in at the teacher's discretion.  We reserve the right to modify this policy at any point.  As we told the students, "just show up" and you will not have to worry about making up the rehearsal.  Communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE all absences before rehearsals.  We DONOT want to guess where you are.  Perpetual absences will forfeit participation in band.

Mr. Schultz
Director of Bands
Email: Schultzm@santarosa.k12.fl.us
Phone: (For Emergencies) (850)525-9551

Ms. Ruiz
Assistant Band Director
Email: Ruizn@santarosa.k12.fl.us
Phone: (For Emergencies) (910)849-7411

Missed Performance Policy - For the time being, any missed performance will result in a zero. We will communicate policy with make-up assignments for this at a later date.  Communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE all absences beforehand.

Uniform Order Deadline - This Friday is the deadline to order Bibbers and Shoes.  Please CLICK HERE for information on ordering.  When you place the bibbers order, these will be shipped to the school and will be picked up upon delivery approximately a week later.  Shoes will be shipped directly to you.

Fair Share Band Fee Payment Due - This Friday is also the due date for the second fair share band fee payment.  This is a payment of $125.  To date, you should have a total payment of $175 posted to your charms accounts.  That means that $175 is left to be owed for your balance.  Charms is up to date with all payments as of this past Friday.  Please check as soon as possible.  CLICK HERE for information on accessing you Charms account.  CLICK HERE for information on paying online.  We can also take cash or checks to the moneybox in front of the band office.

Tri-M - We will be starting a chapter (club) called Tri-M this year and beyond.  Tri-M stands for Modern Music Masters and is open to all music students (Band, Guard, Chorus).  Tri-M offers students the chance to perform, places them in leadership positions within the chapter (Not necessarily band leadership positions), and gives them the opportunity to serve the community. It highlights the music programs, helps students grow in innumerable ways, and brightens their college applications, plus students that maintain a membership will receive a chord they can wear at graduation.  More info about this will be released in time.  We are excited about the opportunities this will create for students.

Shish Kabob Meat Sticking - On Monday, August 15th, we will have our first scheduled shish kabob meat sticking.  This will begin with concert band at 1:30pm and continue with symphonic band till the end of school.  AFTER SCHOOL, all students will join until done.  We should be wrapped up by 6pm.  Parents who are school board approved are welcome to sign-up to volunteer to help.  Parents can sign up by CLICKING HERE.

That is all for now.  I hope all of you have a wonderful first day and week of school!
