This Week in the Mighty Black & Gold

Hello All,

Another week down and another great performance by the Mighty Black & Gold Marching Band! Thank you students for bringing the spirit that we are known to do beginning at the pep rally and then to the game.  Also thank you to the parents for helping out with keeping the band watered and moving equipment and the many other jobs you do when you chaperone!

This week is another average week.  Please be aware that the cookie dough FR is due on Wednesday by the end of the school day.  Also Panther and Symphonic Band students will be in concert set on Monday so make sure all concert instruments are brought to school.

We will be wearing summer uniforms until further notice to this week's game at Choctaw HS.  If this changes this week, I will let everyone know.  We are waiting on the colorguard uniforms and the helmets to arrive.  In the mean time, the only addition that you will need to provide to the actual uniforms is black shin-high socks.  Please go ahead and purchase these this week just in case we do go into full uniforms.

Parents, The 2018 Show Shirt design is here! I have already placed the order for the student shirts.  If you would like a show shirt, please fill out the form at the following link:

http://www.miltonhighschoolband.com/2018-show-shirt-order-form.html

We do NOT need a size for your student as they automatically receive a shirt as part of their band fair share.  Any additional shirt for you or other members of your friends or family will be $12 per shirt.  You can pay in cash or make checks payable to MHS Band either immediately or when the shirts come in.  Shirts should arrive.  Please provide this information by Friday, August 31.  Shirts should be here by the week of September 15th.  These will be black cotton shirts.  The students will have the dry-fit shirts.

One final item for you to plan for is the big shishkabob meat sticking next Wednesday, September 5th! This will begin with Concert Band at 1:40 and will end by 6pm if not earlier.  All students must attend.  Remember, the sale of these kabobs by the BPA at various events helps to provide the band with much needed equipment.

That is all for now.  I hope everyone has an awesome week!!

Hello All,

It is finally here!! The First Day of School and the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.  With this first day come numerous opportunities.  Students, you have a chance at a clean slate for your classrooms.  I encourage you to take full advantage of this in a positive way.  There is not a single teacher on this campus that is not willing to help you succeed, so don't be afraid to ask for help.  Remember, you also have 230 family members to help you not just in the classroom, but around campus and in life.  Of course you always have Mr. Weaver and me for whatever you need even if it's just a simple chat, we are here for you!

Students, this is just a reminder that all show shirt designs entries are due by Monday at the end of the school day.  Remember, the shirt must have our show title, "The Courage Within" as well as the year, 2018-19.  We will vote on the design later in the week.  Please make sure you put your name on the back of the drawing.

This Friday is our first game of the season.  Please make sure you pay attention to the itinerary below.  Call time is 6pm, 5pm for colorguard, all in summer uniform.  Parents, There are a couple volunteer opportunities for you at the game.  Please click on the following links to sign-up for the concession stand or chaperone.

Concessions Sign-up: CLICK HERE

Parents, the August BPA meeting is this Tuesday at 7pm where we will be going over a ton of information for the beginning of the football season.  Immediately after that meeting will be the second and final chaperone meeting.  If you plan to chaperone this year and you did not attend the first meeting, please make plans to attend this meeting.

Just so everyone is aware, we will be attending 3 Saturday competitions again this year.  These have been on charms for quite a while, but I do want you to make sure you have planned for these required performances.  All 3 will be all day events, so make sure that you plane to be in attendance for everything on those days. The dates are as follows:

October 6th - Blackwater Classic at Milton HS.  (We will work with any ACT takers)
October 13th - FBA Marching MPA at Ft. Walton Beach HS
October 20th - Emerald Coast Marching Band Competition at Choctaw HS

Students, the All-State auditions will be here before you know it.  If you have not already received the required materials for this audition, make sure you look at the announcements on the locker room door or CLICK HERE.

This Week in the Mighty Black & Gold

Hello All,

Welcome back! I hope everyone has enjoyed a well-deserved week off.  I want to first say congratulations on a very successful band camp!! All of our students worked extremely hard for those 2 weeks and presented one of the best preview shows to date.  Thank you to all of our amazing students, wonderful parents, and staff for doing your part to get us through those two weeks.  If you missed the preview show, you can watch all three runs as well as the march-in on our YouTube channel by clicking HERE.

This week we get to start back and get back to work on our show as well as prepare for the start of school.  I do want to inform everyone that unfortunately, the construction on the track is still yet to be completed. Because of this, none of the groups that use that field are able to use it until the construction crew finishes.  We have been told that it could take another 2 weeks, but with certain factors, we shall see.  Until then, we will be practicing on the MHS Baseball field for the time being.  I know this will be weird, but at least it is back on campus and we will not have to travel up the road with all of the equipment.  Just so you know, we cannot use the community center because of little league sports starting back up.  Also, the football team is having to travel to East Milton to hold their practices.  None of the groups are allowed to practice in the football stadium so the grass can stay as alive as possible for all of the groups that use that for the year.  We will still do what the Mighty Black & Gold always does and find the Courage to push through any obstacles that get in our way.  This is the whole theme to our show this year after all :-)

Some good news, the storage shed that we have desperately needed was delivered last week.  Our leadership team will be meeting tomorrow at 3pm to "debandcamp" the band hall as well as move stuff to the shed.  This should return to us much needed rehearsal space for our students in the band room.

Our first game is the first Friday of school. This is just a preseason kickoff game, but the Marching band will still be performing.  Call time for this is 6pm with kickoff at 7:30.  Uniform will be the summer uniform just like at the preview show.  Please make sure you have all of the appropriate clothes.  Just so you know I plan to have us go into full uniforms by the first game in September.  I will be posting the itinerary for each game on the charms events next week.

Parents, you can go on our calendar now and sign-up to volunteer for each football game this year now.  Just click on the little hand on under each event and sign up.  I want to remind you that the final chaperone meeting is next Tuesday after the BPA meeting.  If you plan to chaperone at any even this year and you did not attend the first chaperone meeting, you must attend this meeting.  We need concessions help as well.  The concessions side are BPA incentive opportunities.

That is all for now.  I hope everyone has a pronominal week!
