This Week in the Mighty Black & Gold

Hello All,

If you missed the Blackwater Beats Jazz Band in performance this past Friday, you missed out! These students went above and beyond over the past several months and their hard work paid off in a huge way by earning straight superiors.  Even bigger than that was the reaction of the audience during and after the performance.  The most awesome sight for me was when we were at Chik-Fil-A and the Tate students that had listened to us were also there kept going up to our students saying "are you from Milton? You guys were awesome!" Nothing is better than those moments.  So proud of you Jazz Band.  You can see the performance on our YouTube page here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjCU0nSZ1Ng&t=429s

In other news, this is the third and final week of MPA season.  All three of our concert bands will be in performance on Thursday at Pensacola High School for the FBA Concert MPA.  This is the most important performance of the year. We will all leave at the same time at 12:15.  Panther Band performs at 2pm, Concert Band at 4:45, and Symphonic Band at 6:45.  The full itinerary is below.  Students will need money for dinner at the concession stand.  You do not want to miss these performances! Come hear the wonderful sounds of these hard working students!

The Varsity Winterguard will be in performance again the Saturday at Saraland High School.  These students have been working just as hard and keep pushing forward and upward each week.  If you haven't seen their show yet, this is a great chance to watch them! Tickets are $10 at the door.

WE STILL NEED FAIR SHARES TURNED IN! We've had quite a bit of chocolate money turned in over the past couple of weeks and those along with other monies should be updated on charms statements this week.  Please look at your statements and make sure everything is up to date.

We also need all gauntlets turned in.  Thank you to those of you that have already turned these in.  Please return all gauntlets before spring break! We need to go ahead and do inventory on these.  Make sure your name, instrument, and gauntlet number is written on a piece of tape or sticky note and attach that to the gauntlets before you turn them in.

Finally, county instrument inventory is just around the corner on Tuesday, March 7th.  Please go ahead and starting bringing in all marching instruments so I can check those back in.  All school-owned instruments will need to be in the band room by Monday, March 6th.  Any instrument not accounted for will be charged to the student in which that instrument was checked out.

I hope everyone has and amazing week!

There were also three wonderful performances by our indoor groups at the Pace indoor competition Saturday.  All three groups are making so much progress and I cannot wait to see the next show!

The Mattress sale on Saturday was a great success with 19 mattresses sold.  This is much higher than the last time we hosted the mattress sale.  I do not currently have the information ready for the student credits but we will have that soon.  Thank you to the students and parent that gave up their time to help out with this event.

This week we begin the second week of FBA events with Jazz MPA on Friday at Niceville High School.  The itinerary is in the schedule below.  In preparation for the performances this week and next week, we will be presenting the jazz band along with the three concert ensembles in an FBA preview concert this Tuesday at 6pm in the MHS auditorium.  This is a FREE event.  All groups will be performing three tunes a piece which are the same tunes we will perform at the FBA events.  This is a great opportunity for everyone to listen to the wonderful music these students have worked so hard to create, especially if you cannot make it to the FBA performances.  Call time for all students is 5:30 in concert black uniforms.
