From Mrs. Dawson:
Freshmen Day will be this Friday, July 28th from 9-12. Cost is $20.00 which includes Chick-fil-A lunch and a tshirt. If you register in the front office by Wednesday you will be able to get your shirt Friday. We also have waivers in the front office for your parents to sign if you want to okay knockerball. Hello All,
What a great first week of camp we had!! I am so proud of everyone's hard work as we now have half of our show on the field! Thank you to all of our parent who have volunteered to keep our students going each day. First and foremost, outstanding job at the annual carwash yesterday!! If you haven't heard already, we washed a total of 301 cars and took in $2,300 worth of donations. This set an all time high record for both! This could not have happened without your help and hard work. Thank you to all!! We will have a sheet ready for you with the breakdown for each site that you can show your folks that gave pledges. The second week is upon us and with this next week comes some fun things including a section show-off day on Wednesday and the first performance of the 2017 Mighty Black & Gold on Thursday. The schedule for the week will remain the same except for Thursday. Right now, we are scheduled to go 8am to Noon on Thursday, however, we will most likely end rehearsal at 11am or 11:30 depending on how confident in the performance we will be. We will let you know by Wednesday when we will dismiss for Thursday's practice. The performance will begin at 7pm on Thursday night at the band practice field. We will start marching in around 6:50. All wind and percussion students will wear their polo shirts which will be passed out on Monday and black, dress shorts. Cargo shorts are okay as long as they are solid black. Gym shorts are not acceptable for the uniform. Also, students must have mostly white shoes. Color guard will wear solid white tank tops and black shorts. This will be our summer performance uniform until we wear full uniforms. Along with the performance, the BPA will serve hamburgers and hotdogs afterwards. We will be giving out a list of items for each section of the band to bring for the dinner, i.e. chips, salads, condiments, etc. These items can be brought in throughout the week. Finally, freshmen day is this Friday. All MHS freshmen will be given their schedules and shown around campus by the SGA. Please call the guidance office for more info about this. All upperclassmen will need to be present at 10am in a show shirt and blue jean shorts to get ready for the pep rally for the freshmen. Hello All,
What a great time we had at the lock-in this weekend! Mr. Weaver and I couldn't help but notice all of the smiles and laughter seen and heard everywhere we went. Thank you to all of the students for being on your best behavior. We received so many complements at each location. You really upheld the image of the Mighty Black & Gold. Great job! Thank you to the parents that helped out as well. It was so fun getting to know you and watching you have fun as well. Great time had by all. Now it's here! Band camp is upon us. Over the next two weeks, we will be working hard to get the majority of the show on the field and music/drill in our brains. This is the most important two weeks of the beginning of marching season. It is imperative that ALL students are present for each day and session of camp! If students are absent, then we will have holes in the lines and formations on the field and students cannot adjust appropriately which in turn effects the entire band. Please make all efforts to be present! Students who are absent may be placed on the alternate line or may not have a spot at all. Some things to remember for camp: Wear clothes to keep you cool. Wear appropriate marching shoes. Chacos are not appropriate marching shoes. Wear sunscreen...Mitchell Dupre. Bring water. Put your name on your water thermos or bottle. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat every meal. Wear sunscreen...Mitchel Dupre. Bring money for the band camp café should you choose to use it. And finally, wear sunscreen...Mitchell Dupre :-) Parents, I have placed the links to all of the volunteer spots that are still open below. This is a wonderful opportunity to make friends with the other parents and get to know the students. Just click on the link and fill in the information. There are still spots available for volunteers for next week at camp.
