Hello All,

So I just realized that I never sent the weekly events this week.  Sorry about that!

The 2016 rookie camp has come and gone.  We had one cool day three very very hot days but our rookies/leadership/returning members endured! I would like to welcome our 60 newest member of the Mighty Black & Gold Band family! I cannot wait to really get started with this year after seeing your hard work this past week! Congratulations to you all.  I would like to thank our leadership team for your team effort and "go-get-itness" that you showed over the week.  I also want to thank the returning members that came out to camp each day to give the rookies that wonderful example.  Finally I would like to thank Rhonda Harris and Sandy Kennedy for giving up your time and volunteering each day to help keep the students hydrated and healthy! 

Our percussion and colorguard are continuing to work hard as well through their camps.  Keep it up ladies and gentlemen! Your hard work will pay off enormously in July! 

I encourage all parents to attend the MHSBPA meeting tonight at the Band room at 7pm.  Remember, by having a child in our band, you are automatically a member of the Band Parent Association.  There are no dues for the BPA! 

This will probably be the last update for several weeks.  Please make sure you continue to watch the charms calendar.  Percussion camp will finish this week and colorguard will continue on Mondays and Thursdays till the end of June.  There are also several volunteer opportunities for you parents with the BPA for Friday night Bands on the Blackwater as well as Riverfest on July 4th.  It is hard work at times, but I promise you, you;ll have a blast and get to know some amazing people in the process! We have also changed the BPA volunteer incentive program this year.  You have the chance to work off $75 of your child's fair share for the year with up to three volunteer events, $25 per event.  Please sign up for these events by clicking the hand icon on the event on the calendar.  

I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer.  I will be thinking about you all and cannot wait to see everyone in July! :-)

Hello All,

I hope these few days of a break are treating you well. They're Here......ROOKIE CAMP/PERCUSSION CAMP/GUARD CAMP!!! We finally kickstart our summer camps this week.  

To get ready for these camps please make sure you have the appropriate items.  You will need tennis shoes for marching, nonfluorescent shorts, mostly white T-shirt, instrument and music, sticks, flags/rifles, deodorant, sunscreen, a water thermos for water breaks, and anything else that you may want to keep yourself hydrated and cool while we are outside.  All percussion and winds participate in Rookie Camp.  

The schedule for Rookie Camp is as follows:
8:00 am - 12:00 pm - Outside Marching
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm - Lunch
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm - Inside Music

The MHS Cafeteria will be serving a FREE lunch each day as part of their summer lunch program.  Please understand that with it being a free lunch, don't expect a ribeye steak and potatoe each day LOL! It is, however, a nutritious lunch.

Congratulations to our new colorguard members of the 2016-17 Mighty Black & Gold Band!  Now the real work for you begins as you go through the process of learning the routines for our show :-)

Percussion, John hopes to have the line set by Monday at the end of your camp that night.  Hopefully by Tuesday, you will know what exactly you will be playing for the marching band.

New winds, we will hold your auditions Tuesday and Wednesday after rookie camp; Woodwinds on Tuesday and Brass on Wednesday.  

Rookie uniform fittings - These are scheduled to take place all on Thursday of this week, however, we are going to try and get everyone fitted on the woodwind and brass audition days.  As soon as you are finished auditioning on your day, please make sure you get fitted for your uniform parts.  Percussion will go on Wednesday during the brass auditions.   

New Parents, we will be having a meeting for you this Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the band room.  Please make plans to attend as we will go over all the information you need to know about our MHS Band family and will be able to answer any questions you have on the spot.  Refreshments will be provided by the MHS Band Parent Association.
