Hello All,
What a great first week of band camp!! Our students worked incredibly hard and have put a good portion of our show on the field. The preview show is looking to be better and better with each passing day. I would like to thank all of you for your understanding in cancelling the carwash this past Saturday. When we canceled, every weather app that we looked at said thunderstorms were going to be rolling in all day and wouldn't quit until late that afternoon. Of course when we watched the weather the night before, everything said the storms wouldn't begin until around 1 to 1:30, well enough time to wash plenty of cars. We tried to err on the side of caution with our decision and of course the weather was perfect by 11:30 that day. Such is Florida weather....in any case, we are in the process of possibly rescheduling the carwash for Saturday, August 31st. We will get more details out to everyone as soon as we confirm location availability. I know you may have questions about various things with that rescheduling, but please allow us to get everything together before asking. We will get this info out to you as soon as possible. Thank you to all of those that answered the call to help on that day! THE PREVIEW SHOW IS THIS THURSDAY!! Please make plans to attend. Our students, your kidos, have been working extremely hard and are itching to show off just for you. We will be performing in the football stadium. This is a FREE event. Students will need to be in the band room at 6pm in their summer performance uniforms. Wind, Percussion, and Managers will wear their whit polo shirts which all new folks will get this week. Along with black short, mostly white shoes, and white socks. Please make sure that black shorts are dress-type shorts, cargo shorts, or jean shorts, NOT gym shorts or any kind of workout/jersey shorts. Colorguard will wear white shirts, black shorts, black socks, and black shoes. We will not be serving food at this year's preview show. Reasons for this are that this will allow those parents who would have normally been cooking and preparing the food to watch their kids perform. Also this allows for quick clean up afterwards. The BPA will be selling drinks. The BPA will be hosting a band family picnicthis Saturday 3pm-6pm at Russell Harbor Landing in lieu of serving food at the preview show. They will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs. The BPA will send out more information this week as to what they are asking folks to bring. Please RSVP for the event on the calendar using the RSVP icon on for that day so we can have a good number to work with to know how much food we willneed. Bring your bathing suits and lawn chairs and cornhole and footballs/frisbis and everything else. We hope to see you all there. Let's pack Russell Landing with all of our Mighty Black & Gold current and alumni students and parents! Parents, I have attached the Santa Rosa County Volunteer form. We are asking that ALL of our band parents fill this out and turn it in to us. Santa Rosa County school board is requiring this from anyone who will be doing any kind of volunteering at MHS period. Any and all things for Milton HS will need this form. Everything! Yes, even whatever you're thinking of right now. You can turn this in to us any time this week or at the preview show. It can also be downloaded from our website by clicking HERE. Please do this now and not later so we can have all our paper work in on time. Finally, all freshmen are encouraged to sign-up for freshmen day this Friday. Please call MHS at 983-5600 for more information. All veteran marching band members are required to participate in the pep rally on Friday. Look below for the schedule. That is all for now. I hope you have a wonderful week! Hello All,
BAND CAMP IS FINALLY HERE!!!! YAY!!! :-) The most important 2 weeks of marching season is here and I hope you are ready. It is VITAL that all marching band members are here everyday during for camp. If you are absent, you will forfeit your spot on the field and potentially in the band, unless for a valid reason. Remember to bring plenty of water and eat breakfast! Please bring a thermos with your name on it. We will not have time to take 20 minutes for every break for water, so the closer your water, the better. You can even carry it on you if you have the ability. The BPA will be providing items in the softball concession stand for lunch and dinner at a very cheap price so make sure you bring money every day as well. You are welcome to bring your own food. I encourage you to use the BPA instead of going out locally. Local restaurant prices can be expensive each day. The BPA is not trying to make money on this, They are simply trying to give our students an economical way for students to grab some food. Students, please bring plenty of sunscreen as well! Here is the schedule for Band Camp: 8am-Noon - Outside Marching Noon-2pm - Lunch 2pm-5pm - Inside Music/Sectionals 5pm-6:30 - Dinner 6:30-9pm - Outside Marching Parents, we are still in desperate need of help for band camp. Thank you for those that have already signed up! Now it's time for the rest of our parents to step up and support our students! If you want your child to use the BPA for lunch and dinner and keep costs down for you and keep them safe on campus so they don't have to cross any streets, then we need parents to work the concession stand for either or both meals. How better to show support for your own child, then to let them see that you're willing to give up just a couple of hours any given day to help feed them and the rest of the band. We also need help in our medical tent each day. You do not have to be a certified first responder for this. All you have to do is sit under the tent and look over those students who may be overheated or need bandages or ibuprofen. We will have the med kit and medical forms available for you at the tent. Again, let's show your support for our students! To help out, simply go to our calendar HERE and click on any of the yellow helping hand symbols under an event and sign-up then show up! Easy as pie! I look forward to seeing you there! Students, our leadership team has come up with dress-up days for each day of camp. I encourage you to participate especially since there will be prizes per section for the amount of folks that participate. Here they are: 1st week: Mon - tie dye, Tues - Tropical, Wed - Twin, Thurs - Holiday 2nd Week: Mon - Villain, Tues - Decade, Wed - Schultz vs Weaver, Thurs - Section Day For Decade Day - 90s-Freshmen, 70s-Sophomores, 80s-Juniors, 50s-Seniors Next Friday after the preview show is freshmen day a MHS. Freshmen are encouraged to participate and can call the guidance department for more information. All marching sophomores, juniors, and seniors are required to participate in the pep rally for our freshmen at 10am that morning. We will wear a show shirt and blue jean shorts or pants. Students, this is your final pre-band camp reminder to sign up for the UDBapp. This is how you will learn your marching drill this year. Please do not put this off! Here is the sign-up info:

We have lots of information to pass your way in this email so make sure you read all the way to the end. First of all, it has been brought to my attention that some people don't know which emails are for which group within the band. Just fyi my weekly emails are for the entire band (winds, guard, percussion, managers). If there is a specific group I need to single out, I will specify as follows: guard = colorguard perc or percussion = percussion winds = all brass and woodwind instruments We will start back with everyone this week! Please look at the schedule below. There are lots of volunteer opportunities for our parents coming up over the next 3 weeks. We need chaperones for the lock-in this Friday and Saturday, Med tent volunteers for Band Camp Days, Band Camp Cafe volunteers for Band Camp, and Carwash chaperones. All parent volunteer opportunities can be viewed on our calendar by Clicking HERE. look for the yellow helping hand sign under an event. You will be asked to create a profile, this is FREE and will NOT send any emails or put you on any lists and it will NOT distribute any of your information. Here are the step-by-step instructions below:
If you have already created an account before this, just change your ensemble name with the information above. Do not worry about putting in your "Performer Label" yet. You will get this on the first day of Band Camp. We will be having a tutorial for this the last hour of rehearsal on Thursday. Please do not wait to download this app and get it on your phone. You only need to access wifi one time on your device to download and set up. After that, you will only need to download the drill. No data is used with this app. Parents, If you have any mobile devices that you will no longer need and are looking for a good home for them, please consider donating them to the MHS Band for those students that do not have access to a mobile device. Please make sure you reset everything to factory default settings before you give them to us. Finally, the band carwash will be here soon on Saturday, July 20th.
