Hello All,
Hopefully everyone had a great first week of school. Please see below for all of the info so far for this week. Shish Kabob Meat Sticking - Monday is the first big meat sticking of the year. This is an incredibly important event and is meant to restock the kabobs for the BPA. Our kabobs are world famous and are the primary means of sales for the BPA to support our students. We will begin with Concert Band during 5th period then Symphonic during 6th. All students will join us after school till 6pm or earlier. Parents are invited to sign-up and help out as well by CLICKING HERE. Lumpia Fundraiser - We will be kicking off the Lumpia fundraiser this Monday. This fundraiser can be highly lucrative for students. There is high demand for these hand-rolled lumpia every year. Each bag is $15 and students make $5 profit per bag. This profit will go directly to student fair share band fees. We will send order forms home with students and will also send a form through email to everyone. Everything is due on Wednesday, September 7th during the band classes. First Game - The first game is right around the corner on August 26th. The call time for this game is 6pm in summer uniform. This will also be the last time students will be in summer uniform for games. We will move to normal marching band uniforms every performance after that. As a reminder, parents can now sign up to chaperone or work the concession stand for any of the games. Chaperone Meeting - This Thursday we will have our second chaperone meeting for the year. If you attended the first meeting, you do not have to go to this one. Remember, you MUST attend one of the chaperone meetings to chaperone any band event. Also, chaperones must have a child in the band or be on the BPA board. Voluntary Pep Rally - East Milton Elementary has asked if we could provide a band to play at their annual beginning of the year pep rally this Friday. All leadership need to be there. Everyone else are welcome as long as they have a ride there and back. We will meet in front of the East Milton ES at 8am and be done by 9:30am. The Band hall will open by 7:45am. I will have a signup sheet on Monday for students for this event so I can excuse students for being late to first period. We will wear summer uniform. That is all for now. I hope all of you have a wonderful week! Lots of info for this week Happy FIRST WEEKish of SCHOOL!! :-) Open House/Rehearsal Monday - This Monday MHS will be hosting an open house 5:30pm-7pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for all students and parents to meet your other teachers and figure out your path from class to class. The admin team will also host a Q&A for all parents in the gym 7pm-7:30. We will have marching band rehearsal 7pm-9pm on Monday. Please plan to be ready for rehearsal prior to 7pm. MHSBPA Monthly Meeting - This Tuesday the BPA will hold the August meeting at 7pm in the band room. We will be going over volunteer opportunities for the football season as well as other important business items and needs for this year. Remember, by having a student in the band, you are automatically a part of the Band Parent Association. If you want to know how to get plugged in with your child and band, please plan to attend these meetings. School Stuff - The first day of school is Wednesday :-) I hope everyone is excited! I know we are!! This past Thursday nighty, we took time out of rehearsal to go over several expectations of the band for the classroom. These are for non-band classes as well as band during and after school. Here is what we talked about: - Pep Rallies, early releases from class, along with participation in band events are privileges. - Students must be in "good favor" with their teachers to participate in these - How to stay in good favor: 1. Be Present and on Time 2. Be Respectful 3. Turn in assignments on time 4. Ask for help when needed/communicate with teachers 5. Use your recourses (Students in band at all levels have been their and done that) Missed Rehearsal Policy - We are instilling an attendance policy this year for all missed after-school rehearsals. All rehearsals have been individually placed as assignments in the Focus gradebook. Any missed rehearsal for any reason will result in a zero for that rehearsal. Students can make this up for full credit by having a 1 hour practice session per missed rehearsal outside of normal school/rehearsal hours. This means either before school or after school. These sessions MUST take place at the band room (or practice field during marching season). Students must check in with Ms. Ruiz or Mr. Schultz before and after the practice session. We will most likely have a log book for this process. Rehearsals and performances are just like assignments given in any academic class. When assignments are not turned in, students will receive zeros until turned in at the teacher's discretion. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any point. As we told the students, "just show up" and you will not have to worry about making up the rehearsal. Communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE all absences before rehearsals. We DONOT want to guess where you are. Perpetual absences will forfeit participation in band. Mr. Schultz Director of Bands Email: Schultzm@santarosa.k12.fl.us Phone: (For Emergencies) (850)525-9551 Ms. Ruiz Assistant Band Director Email: Ruizn@santarosa.k12.fl.us Phone: (For Emergencies) (910)849-7411 Missed Performance Policy - For the time being, any missed performance will result in a zero. We will communicate policy with make-up assignments for this at a later date. Communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE all absences beforehand. Uniform Order Deadline - This Friday is the deadline to order Bibbers and Shoes. Please CLICK HERE for information on ordering. When you place the bibbers order, these will be shipped to the school and will be picked up upon delivery approximately a week later. Shoes will be shipped directly to you. Fair Share Band Fee Payment Due - This Friday is also the due date for the second fair share band fee payment. This is a payment of $125. To date, you should have a total payment of $175 posted to your charms accounts. That means that $175 is left to be owed for your balance. Charms is up to date with all payments as of this past Friday. Please check as soon as possible. CLICK HERE for information on accessing you Charms account. CLICK HERE for information on paying online. We can also take cash or checks to the moneybox in front of the band office. Tri-M - We will be starting a chapter (club) called Tri-M this year and beyond. Tri-M stands for Modern Music Masters and is open to all music students (Band, Guard, Chorus). Tri-M offers students the chance to perform, places them in leadership positions within the chapter (Not necessarily band leadership positions), and gives them the opportunity to serve the community. It highlights the music programs, helps students grow in innumerable ways, and brightens their college applications, plus students that maintain a membership will receive a chord they can wear at graduation. More info about this will be released in time. We are excited about the opportunities this will create for students. Shish Kabob Meat Sticking - On Monday, August 15th, we will have our first scheduled shish kabob meat sticking. This will begin with concert band at 1:30pm and continue with symphonic band till the end of school. AFTER SCHOOL, all students will join until done. We should be wrapped up by 6pm.
