This Week in the Mighty Black & Gold

4/3/2016

Before I talk about this week I want to give a huge brag towards our indoor groups.  All three had powerhouse performances at the 2016 GCGPC Championship at Tate High School this past Saturday! The Black Gold Percussion Ensemble placed 1st in their class, the JV Winterguard placed 5th in their class, and the Varsity Winterguard placed 2nd in their class.  If you missed them, you can watch all three performances on our YouTube page:

This Tuesday will be a very special event for the entire Mighty Black & Gold.  First, the Panther Band will give a performance at 6:00 pm in the auditorium.  This performance will be judged as part of their assessment concert for the semester; pretty much exactly like the other bands.  Mark Walker from Troy University, Rick Glaze from UWF, and Don Snowden from PSC will be judging.  The ENTIRE MHS band program are required to attend.  This does include Jazz band and colorguard.  After the performance at around 6:15, we will have the first annual band senior signing day.  All seniors that have said they will continue with band in college will be signing a commitment to do so in an event just like an athletic signing.  This does not mean they are doing band as a career, simply they are choosing to continue to use their talents in a band program at the college level.  This is also a required event for the ENTIRE MHS band program.  We encourage all families and friends to attend both important events.

Finally, The Crawfish Festival is fast approaching.  In fact, it is just two weeks away.  We will be needing both parent and student help for various jobs during the festival which is April 16th, 10am-9pm.  We will  be posting volunteer signups on charms for parents to signup.  I will post student signups in the band room.  If you are in need of fulfilling the BPA incentive, this will be a great way to work and earn the $100 off your fair share payments.
