ROOKIE CAMP IS HERE! :-) and we cannot be more excited! Over the next four days, our new students, and some of our returning students, will embark on one of the most important weeks of the marching band season. This camp will teach our new folks how to march most of all, but also hone in on proper techniques to make the right sounds, play the correct rudiments, and/or correctly toss a flag. We will do all of this and more this week. All new students wishing to be in the marching band MUST attend all of these days of Rookie Camp. Some things to remember about camp:
- Please make sure you eat before you arrive.
- Start now and keep drinking plenty of appropriate fluids.
- Wear clothing that will keep you cool for outside activities
- Wear tennis shoes for outside activities
- Think about bringing a change of clothes if you don't want to stay in your sweaty clothes the whole time
- Bring some kind of water thermos with your name on it.
- Bring your instruments, music, equipment, and a pencil
- Wear sunscreen
- Hats and sunglasses are okay to wear
- Bring lunch should you decided not to go anywhere or use the cafeteria
- Remember, the cafeteria is providing free lunch this summer
The schedule for each day is as follows:
8am-Noon - Outside Marching/playing
Noon-1pm - Lunch
1pm-2:15 - Inside Music
2:15-3pm - Activity
All new members both marching and non-marching must audition this Tuesday and Thursday 3pm-6pm. Woodwinds will be Tuesday and Brass will be Wednesday. During these two days, we will also fit our new and returning students in their uniforms. Please make sure you plan for all of this accordingly.
Percussion camp will also take place this week. This is Monday through Thursday 5pm-9pm. All percussion students must attend this camp. This will be both inside and outside each day.
Colorguard camp will begin the week after this week. All colorguard members must attend this camp as well as the other colorguard camp during the last week of June.
If there are any scheduling conflicts like family vacations or others, please make sure you contact us so we can plan for this. CLICK HERE for contact info for percussion and guard staff.
We will be having a NEW PARENT meeting this Monday at 6:30. All new parents of the marching band are asked to be in attendance so we can get to know you most of all and so we can give you everything you want to know about the Mighty Black & Gold Band.
Finally, this will be the last weekly update for several weeks. Please make sure you keep up with the schedule on our band calendar. You can access this by clicking HERE. Also, if something arises to where you will not be able to do marching band or band in general this summer, please make sure you let us know. We have to send accurate numbers to our drill writer so it is ready by band camp. Go ahead and mark your calendars now for the first performance of the 2018 Mighty Black & Gold Marching Band on Thursday, July 26th at 7pm!
